Romania has decoupled economic growth from pollution faster than anywhere else in EU. Its net greenhouse gas emissions intensity fell 88% between 1990 & 2023, so each euro’s worth of economic activity heats planet 10 times less. Emissions have plunged by 75%. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"

China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

If China's emissions had kept growing at previous levels emissions would like, what, maybe a full GIGATONNE higher....the area of avoided emissions here is like deleting the emissions of entire countries. This is happening at a scale that will very clearly have an effect in lessening disasters

57 companies are responsible for 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions since 2016.

These companies include fossil fuel giants like Chevron, Shell, and BP, who have been raking in record profits.

The profits of Big Oil should not be more important than the future of our planet.

China’s CO2 emissions have now been flat or falling for 18 months, starting in March 2024.

This trend continued in the third quarter of 2025, when emissions were unchanged year-on-year.

If this trend starts to move into sustained carbon emissions reduction it would be hugely significant.

An unfathomable clean air act violation. I worked in this exact field for years, including in oil and gas, and i still can't get over how wanton and obvious this crime is. Just stunning

This new tool, the Carbon Impacts Tracer, which translates carbon emissions into real-world climate impacts like heat exposure and coral bleaching, looks super useful.

Fossil fuel lobbyists are now talking gas up as a ‘green’ fuel.

To be absolutely clear, this is nonsense.

Coal full life cycle emissions: 800-1,700g CO2e/kWh

Gas full life cycle emissions: 290-930g CO2e/kWh

Wind power full life cycle emissions: 5-15g CO2e/kWh

The proposal also ends the requirement for continuous emissions monitoring. At the same time, a second rule would eliminate all limits on greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

Does no one else find this an unforgivably stupid question?

Emissions reductions won't make a heat wave NOW survivable.

Likewise, more homes can have AC, heat pumps while overall cutting greenhouse emissions. This isn't an "either/or", both are needed.

climate change is real. all costs of beating climate change must be born by other people, who produce emissions purely for fun, unlike the emissions I produce, which are all life or death necessities
In 2026 the modal center left opinion is:

Climate change is real! But the actuarial risk posed by climate change? Fake news spread by usurious financial institutions.
It’s very disheartening, because I talk to a lot of liberal friends and they all are aghast at the idea of charging more for insurance but, this is what’s gonna happen when you don’t let insurance companies raise rates!
