i ask people to bring a USB stick when they get their VHS tapes digitized and they always buy the cheapest one at officeworks, an EMTEC branded USB stick thats 2.0 rated.

Gues what, it's yet another pretty late, probably 2000s era, EMTEC FE1 cassette. Smokey-clear shell, golden-ish print on the shell, white hubs with bright red clips. Chocolatey brown tape. The tape pack is kinda small 'cos EMTEC was already cheaping out at that time and filled its C-60 blanks with C-90 thickness tape. A white label has "Verspannung # 96" written on it in orange handwriting.

A last-of-the-line EMTEC (formerly BASF) Ferro Extra I cassette. At that point, they've been cheaping out already, as evidenced by the rather tiny tape pack which is clear evidence of C-90 thickness tape being loaded into this C-60 Cassette. As if to divert our attention away from that fact, everything is printed on the shell in a-bit-to-flashy golden letters. White hubs with bright red tape clips.

An early-to-mid nineties BASF Ferro Extra cassette. Probably a later model as it got rid of the neat "ridged" design in exchange for a more plain-looking smoked shell that looks a lot like that of later, re-designed BASF/EMTEC ferrics, though the overall design still hints at the look of earlier iterations which had sort of a theme of diagonal lines. White text printed on it with red accents, the hubs are matching in color. A white label has "Verspannung #72" written on it in my absolutely perfect (not) handwriting.

Sharing a peek at the most intimate corner of my studio: my little retro altar, where I say a quiet HTML prayer each morning.
