Auto-Regressive LLMs (auto-encoders with causal transformer architectures) and BERT-style models (denoising auto-encoders with transformer archis) are smashing demonstrations of the power of self-supervised (pre-)training.
But they only work for sequences of discrete symbols: language, proteins...

I’ve had an ffmpeg instance running for over 5,000 hours on a x86 machine at work (tv station). More stable than a few of our cheaper hardware encoders, which surprised me.

I love how clever video encoders get.
There’s a lot of research hype right now around optimization for Screen Recordings specifically.
If you think about it, it’s a VERY different arena to what we’d consider “traditional” video.

Caved and joined the base Mac Mini M4 bandwagon.
Fun fact, the encoder (from my testing) is essentially equal to the M2 Max (which has 2 encoders)

it sucks that the web is so broken that we have resigned search and knowledge acquisition to (1) proprietary products (2) stochastic document encoders. I would like neither of these in my search results.
