A physician in Indonesia just emailed me asking for advice on how to start a @3wishesprogram.bsky.social! How cool is that?! #Kindness is spreading. #EOLCare

Just got some really stunning fingerprint paintings back from our volunteer artists. I have no doubt that bereaved @3wishesprogram.bsky.social families will cherish them. #keepsakes #EOLcare

A volunteer made this personalized windchime for one of our @3wishesprogram.bsky.social patients. May the family always feel his love and presence with every gust of wind. #EOLcare

So much beauty, time, and attention to detail goes in creating these hand molds. This one is for a husband and wife holding hands for final time. #Kindness #EOLcare

Dying on Xmas day is always so hard on those who are left behind. There is little we can do to make that memory ok. Here, our #PCCM fellow and #IM resident went above & beyond to serenade a dying patient on #Christmas morning. #EOLcare @3wishesprogram.bsky.social

#ICU nurses at #LAGeneral Medical Center are prepping these glass vials to hold the EKG rhythm strips of a dying patient to gift to the family. These "heartbeats in a bottle" don't cost much at all but are so cherished by grieving families. @3wishesprogram.bsky.social #KindnessMatters #EOLcare

A daughter of a deceased patient tells me that her daughter still leaves her grandmother's @3wishesprogram.bsky.social fingerprint keychain on her nightstand a year later. Every night, she still speaks "to grandma" before she goes to bed. Oh my heart. #EOLcare

This fingerprint painting is the work of our newest volunteer artist to join our @3wishesprogram.bsky.social! The now deceased patient loved hydrangeas and her black and blonde labradors. I hope the family will love this painting. #EOLcare #keepsakes #kindnessmatters

This @3wishesprogram.bsky.social fingerprint painting was for a patient whose family told us was a "man of faith" and loved playing the guitar. Isn't the rosary using his fingerprint just stunning?! #EOLcare

A nurse reached out to me to let me know she bought this blanket for her dying patient who was a huge Lakers' fan as part of the @3wishesprogram.bsky.social. I love it that she went the extra mile to make her patient's last moment's special. #EOLcare #hapc #kindnessmatters

Pre-made templates make it easy for bedside nurses to print and frame EKG keepsakes for families of dying patients.

Sometimes, walking away with a heart rhythm after losing a loved one can mean so much. #EOLcare

The patient was young and always had his favorite stuff animal, "Marshmallow" with him. After he died, our #3wishesprogram volunteer created this painting for this family (the painting integrated his fingerprints). #hpc #EOLcare

We had @3wishesprogram.bsky.social meeting tonight and showed this slide. I am honestly in AWE of the wonderful #volunteer #artists we have been able to recruit to our program and the work they've done for bereaved families. 168 unique, personalized fingerprint paintings!!! #AngelsOnEarth #EOLcare

The young patient hadn't been outside for 6 months since her hospitalization. As part of her end-of-life care, we made it possible for her family to gather around her outside, in the beautiful sun. #EOLcare #hapc shared with permission.

I went to see my patient on #EOLcare & saw that the nurse had encased his hands in warm water-filled gloves, to simulate human touch (his family was not able to be there). Below is a googled picture. This kind of compassion is not taught in school. My heart is full. @3wishesprogram.bsky.social

Not a heart transplant candidate, she was tired of an existence that depended on occasional defibrillation shocks and IV medications that restricted her to the CCU room. She requested that everything be turned off...after a final drink. This prosecco was her toast to life & eternity. #EOLcare

One of our @3wishesprogram.bsky.social families shared that she used her mom's fingerprint that we provided (along with her dad's) to get a tattoo. She says her mom was her everything, and now, a representation of her will always be with her. People die but love lasts forever. #hapc #EOLcare

When we started providing fingerprint keychains to bereaved families, we had no idea how valued they would be. We've now provided 1000's. So often families have told us they carry it with them everywhere. Here is @thanhneville.bsky.social holding onto her cousin's. #keepsakes #EOLcare #kindness

A daughter shared with us how our teddy bear that contains her father's heartbeat sits atop her bedroom dresser--along with loving pictures and other mementos our @3wishesprogram.bsky.social provided. May these memories be a blessing. #EOLcare

The patient loved music. This is a volunteer harpist who came to the bedside and played for him & his family during his final moments. Years later, his family still says her music is one of the things they remember as being part of their goodbye to their loved one. #kindness #EOLcare

When we begin to look at the gaps in care & barriers to opportunity for people of all backgrounds to receive adequate #EoLCare, @jamillahussain1.bsky.social is a voice to be listened to.
It's far more complex than hospices & palliative care teams.
Wait until we finally start considering what “proper” palliative care is and for whom

Inequalities have increased on the watch of hospices w slow movement in the right direction

Palliative care is broader than specialist services

The dying patient loved #Dodgers, so we decorated the room this way & encouraged the family to put up pictures. So often the critically ill patient we see before us does not tell the story of who they are as a PERSON. Actions like these bring #humanism & #compassion into the #ICU. #hapc #EOLcare

Over time, we've realized that having a keepsake from a dying loved one is so precious to many family members. Having glass vials available for placement of a lock of hair or an EKG strip is so easy to do and yet mean so much. #hapc #EOLcare
