It's about time that the courts and judges realised that trans people have rights under the Equaity Act and the Gender recognition Act and not just a small, very loud well funded middle aged bigoted busy bodies. No doubt the tervarati will be back with more well funded campaigns to waste court time

Cost me $150k.

Thanks. I think many politicans have been bought, and I suspect few are interested in equaity or fairness, or in making the system work for the majority. The few that do understand what you say are sidelined and marginalised.

Anytime a group of people gets more money or more power than others, everything turns to shit. Same with nature. Balance is needed to keep it healthy. You need the predators and the prey the destruction and the regrowth not to out do oneanother.

FAO Anneliese Dodds, c/o the Office for Equality and Opportunity Thank you to your and your colleagues for recently publishing the results of the survery initiated by Kemi Badenoch under the previous Government, seeking examples of incorrect guidance regarding single-sex services. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/response-to-call-for-input-on-single-sex-spaces-guidance/response-to-call-for-input-on-single-sex-spaces-guidance As you are no doubt aware, there has been a great deal of discussion, misinformation and alarm circulated over the last few years regarding the provision of single-sex services in the UK, particularly in relation to transgender people. Many "gender critics" have claimed that services are frequenly failing to properly implement Equality Act provisions -- by which they tend to mean, failing to exclude transgender people and operate "single-sex" services according to biological sex. The results of the survery catgorically prove that this is not the case. Specifically, 90% of the documents submitted as evidence of misapplication of the law were found, in fact, to contain correct and compliant guidance. In particular, thank you for clarifying in your results summary that it is entirely lawful (though not of course mandatory) "to allow those with the ‘gender reassignment’ protected characteristic access to single-sex spaces that correspond with their self-identified gender". This of course is reflected in the Statutory Code of Practice to the Equality Act (p.197; para 13.57). https://www.equalityhumanrights.com/sites/default/files/servicescode_0.pdf What the results of this survey show is NOT that service providers are struggling to operate single-sex services lawfully, but that instead many gender critics appear to fundamentally misunderstand / disagree with the basic provisions of the Equality Act regarding single-sex services and gender reassignment, believing them to be unlawful when they are not. As you will already be aware, key gender critical groups such as For Women Scotland and Sex Matters are current campaigning for "sex" in the Equaity Act to be (re)defined as "biological" sex only (either via legal ruling or a rewrite of primary legislation). https://sex-matters.org/posts/stand-up-for-single-sex-services/time-to-make-the-equality-act-clear/ https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/uksc-definition-of-sex-in-equality-act/ My impression is that the *primary aim* of these campaigns is to ensure single-sex services are entirely segregated by biological sex, such that trans people would no longer be able to use the facilities of their self-identified gender under any circumstances -- something which, as you know, is currently unlawful under our Equality Act. I would like to draw your attention once again to the anti-trans prejudice and sentiments which underpin such campaigns. For example, Sex Matters have criticised the EHRC's recent draft rewrite of the Statutory Code of Practice (which has already been reworded to try to make it more palatable to gender critics, but still upholds the principles outined above). Sex Matters responded by suggesting that (for example) a trans-related example in the Indirect Discrimination chapter should be: “A woman who identifies as a man (viewing herself as a ‘transgender man’) visits a nightclub and tries to use the men’s toilets. Some men complain and staff direct the customer to use the unisex toilets. The transgender customer feels this is a detriment and threatens to bring a claim. This is an unjustified sense of grievance, since the men’s toilet is not a service provided for women.” https://sex-matters.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Response-to-EHRC-COP-consultation.pdf (p.8) Sex Matters also state in their response letter (p. 10) that, regarding standalone female services: "it is naive to think that the group of men who wish to access these services are doing so for sound reasons, and not because some men enjoy humiliating women, are exhibiting a sexual fetish or are seeking to gain access to situations where women and their children are vulnerable." https://sex-matters.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/SM-letter-on-EHRC-COP-attachment.pdf Such blatantly transphobic remarks reveal the true sentiments which I believe drive campaigns to re-write the Equality Act itself. All of which is to say, I hope that over the coming months (and if necessary, years) you and the Labour Government will stand firm, as you have previously done, in upholding the law we have had for the last 15 years, preserving and protecting the rights and protections trans people currently enjoy under our Equality Act, and resisting calls from gender-critical groups to undermine or remove these protections by rewriting primary legislation.
