Capitalism and consumers are tethered to eachother. It is this relationship that made the system work . However , that tether has broken and 1 side of the equation acts like it doesnt need the other . The system must be overhauled or all together abandoned

If poetry has felt too quiet or too abstract, Danez Smith writes with a directness that changes the equation. The opening sequence imagines an afterlife for Black men killed by police, and from there the collection moves through HIV, desire, grief and survival in lines that are performative, physical and unguarded. This is work that speaks plainly even when it's at its most lyrical, which makes it a good entry point for readers who suspect poetry isn't for them.
