Akkadian/Sumerians again. This time some "battle carts" pulled by 4 equids. Nice models but requiring a deeper base that I'd normally base chariots types on, 50mm not 40mm but means there is no annoying overhang at the rear.

15/18mm 3d prints by Uppsala Miniatures rescaled from 28mm.

4/ Voles, lemmings, squirrels, lagomorphs, mustelids - as well as bone fragments from larger mammals, probably including mammoths and equids.

All preserved in permafrost for somewhere around 600,000–900,000 years. 🤯

Mattina, Roman’s momma died at 3rd Coast Sanctuary. The sanctuary believes in keeping families together. This may be painful to see, yet highlights the deep familial bonds shared by equids.

Alt txt: Roman gently pawing at his momma, Mattina, in grief. Sonny, brother, to the R.

And 12,000 years ago, nomadic peoples depicted the paleoenvironment & animal communities in cliff-face rock carvings- illustrating the presence of camels, ibex, equids, and other larger mammals that they hunted.

Other highlights include human gestational stuff, hind-gut fermenters (horses, rabbits), and almost everything else about equids, for that matter.

TIL male equids, esp. donkeys, have their nipples on their sheath. Do with that information what you will.

Horses are hypnotic glass cannons

Either impossible to resist horsecock/donut

or incredibly zonkable jocks

(same goes for the other equids)

You know who’s a charming beast? A chalicothere! The fossil mammals were sloth horses, related to equids, rhinos, and friends, but with claws at the end of their feet instead of hooves. This particular form is Moropus, a chalicothere that wandered North America between 20 and 13 million years ago. 🧪

Happy Chinese New Year! As we enter the Year of the Horse, we meet the equids of Kaimere. There are familiar horses in the known world, but in the realms beyond, many are so strange they could hardly be recognized without close inspection.

It's a good question! They are more closely related to rhinos and equids (horses etc.). The trunk-like nose seems to be an example of convergent evolution -- it evolved independently, showing what a useful adaptation it is.
