I have a few other Uralic language books in Finnish, the cover of this Erzya textbook is super cute. One cool thing about Erzya (but that's not all!), it has a fairly full paradigm of object inflection on verbs, which also agree with the subject.

lmao these are some of the options that my eye doctor apparently makes available as a preferred language for patients

Finland and Estonia are assisting independence movements in the Finnish-Ugric regions of Karelia, Ingria, Komi, Mari-El, Udmurtia, Chuvashia, Erzya, and Moksha. If Hungary dumps that snake Orban, it will join the effort.

russias imperialism against natives. 2 Erzya activists, 91-year-old Yevgeny Chetvergov and 76-year-old Mikhail Chetvergov were convicted in Russia (accused of terrorism). Among other evidence, the 🇪🇪 flag and the catalogue of the Finno-Ugric permanent exhibition at 🇪🇪 National Museum were confiscated

Checking in a kid at urgent care and have to choose a primary language and I’m amazed at the list they’re using. Almost chose English, old or Egyptian (ancient)

i respect the hustle by my doctor's office for putting every possible language into this dropdown form, but i suspect they maybe don't have staff that can accommodate all of these

Representatives of the Tatar, Oirat-Kalmyk, Erzya, Buryat, Chechen, Sakha (Yakut) and other national movements took part in the worldwide action.

Vedyava is the water and love goddess, who has several names in Erzya and Moksh traditional beliefs.

It’s said, you should never leave the water you washed with – someone may stole it along with your talent, good luck and heath.

Oh, look, my band's playing at Tallinn Music Week!
We are Kännu Peal Käbi, and we play in various Finno-Ugric languages.
This time it's gonna be Erzya, Moksha, Livonian, Ingrian Finnish and Võru.
Fenno-Ugria Night is going to be a blast, just like last year.

erzya 😍 i have a grammar of that somewhere
May 7, 2026 at 3:41 AM
Erzya also does this thing where multiple cases can stack on the same noun which functions as a definite noun, occasionally without any additional derivation marker. Some examples from Marianne Bakró-Nagy's (editor) Uralic Languages chapter on Mordvinic languages

In the medieval chronicles, Mordvins were deemed so aggressive nobody was advised to cross their land.
Mordvin languages contain a ton of Siberian stuff and nobody knows why.
The Elder of the Erzya people is in Ukraine fighting against Russians.
Gerard Depardieu lives in Mordovia for some reason.

They are all minorities, "ethnic" Russians are those minorities like Merya that claim they are, since maybe 13th century, along with Moksha and Erzya who partly kept there identity but most of them are now also "Russians", even Muslim Tatars convert, then turn into such Russians

Uhh ok who exactly made this Language dropdown in the demographic input form
November 10, 2025 at 7:25 PM
Erzya and Moksha!
The chaotic twins often collectively called Mordvins are the most numerous Finno-Ugric people without a state (~600 000?).
They have a republic but most live scattered all over the Eastern European plains and are assimilating rapidly.
They have a ton of peculiar shit going on.
