I've gone off of video essays in recent times. Not entirely sure why. Luckily none of the video essayists I like and respect in spite of not keeping up with their content which I follow on here know of my existence, and probably wouldn't care even if they did.

In general, if you know any nonfiction writers (memoirists, journalists, essayists) struggling with the brass tacks aspects of this business, this is the class for them (is my aspiration, anyway) … Anyone willing to share this listing with others who’d maybe be interested, thanks so much!!!

I don't think I can do one of those "Top X Games of All Time" lists because, even though there's plenty of video games I like, very few of them actually changed my life in a meaningful way.
Plus, they wouldn't be the 5-10 games that "everyone" played & are constantly glazed by video essayists.

there is an absolutely tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny subset of Essayists who are interesting in any way, there are some filmmakers using it as an indie distribution/exposure avenue in the way previous generations used local fests and video stores and so on, and then there are YTPs

I don’t know about ‘bread tube’ but it’s a fact that most video essayists come from well off comfortable middle class to upper middle class families who maybe got into film school and didn’t make the cut. And that also tends to color their algorithm chasing opinions. There are exceptions.

I always bristle when essayists say stuff like "we never needed anything better than the PS2, look how good silent hill 3 looks" because there's stuff you can do on modern hardware that the 6th gen systems simply could not ever achieve. I don't need bleeding edge fidelity but like. 1080p/60fps nice.

Maybe it's because I played it on release, but it was just a cool jumpy space map to me? I did not know people hated the og Xen until I started seeing YouTube essayists saying it sucks.
