Of note: as the ONLY drug💊currently on the List of Drugs for an Urgent Public Health Need, #rifapentine is the ONLY drug that currently qualifies for this Health Canada evaluation fee waiver. But Sanofi still can't be bothered to bring this #EssentialMedicine for #tuberculosis to market in Canada.

Vertex charges prices that made Trikafta/Kaftro a 10x blockbuster drug in 2025. That's greed, well beyond recouping R&D costs and a decent ROI.
(Plus in many countries they don't sell it at all).
Generics of this WHO #EssentialMedicine can save ⬆️lives in ⬆️places at a tiny fraction of the cost👍.

Had missed the kinda unusual scenario where an #EssentialMedicine for #NTDs that actually IS marketed in Canada was in shortage and in turn the "exceptional importation and sale" of an alternate supply was permitted (same company/brandname but labelled for "Middle Africa"). #Praziquantel #Biltricide

Always interesting to read an article like this, from GSK's VP of "market access", and think about challenges in Canada accessing GSK-innovated drugs💊 like #albendazole - a WHO #EssentialMedicine since the 1980s - that #GSK has never bothered to even attempt to sell in Canada in the past 4 decades.🙄
