The city of Veii was the largest and wealthiest Etruscan city-state, but, following conquest by Rome, transformed into a smaller, seemingly less important settlement. Was Roman Veii a failure, or is there more to the story? #InternationalDayforFailure

🏺🤰I made a vase inspired by an Etruscan uterus ex voto from the Etruscan Museum in Rome. Decorations inspired by Etruscan ceramics designs. Took me the whole term but I am very happy w the result!

Imagine being an Etruscan from 300 BC just trying to check the eyeliner in a bronze mirror and instead having to stare at Heracles and Hermes in the middle of an emotional support session under a tree.

Archaeologists used acoustics and AI to study Etruscan tombs in Italy (420 BC) as deliberate sound experiences. The Tomb of the Blue Demons has eerily long reverb and echoes; the Tomb of the Rooster instead directs the eye. Oxford/Duke, 2026.
