Boris lied, like he did throughout the EUref campaign?
October 11, 2026 at 8:39 PM
How does he know? Just because it may not have affected result of EURef doesn't mean it didn't happen & that it shouldn't be tackled. Is he's worried rooting it out will affect his electoral chances? Also why doesn't he name the one thing he thinks the public expected which hasn’t been delivered?

So many bad faith takes on #Russian interference with #EUref inc:
1) "I didn't see anything"; cos 'Jane from Sussex' didn't look like a bot.
2) "You think all Leave voters were stupid & manipulated by Russia"; no, committed #Leave voters won't have been targeted, only undecided.
October 13, 2026 at 8:23 AM
It's not remarkable at all. Widespread Russian interference in democratic votes is established (Macron's 1st campaign was hacked, Trump 2016 Russia connections, recent interference in Moldova etc). It would've been remarkable if #Russia had done nothing for #EUref given *stated support for #Brexit*

The forces of the Right have a very rude awakening. Both with Burnham’s admittance that the EURef was interfered with and the Ukrainian attack destroying a Russian data centre which hosted bot accounts for far right parties and the GOP in the US. As damming as Man City’s cheating in football.
October 12, 2026 at 6:30 AM
When at #PMQ PM Burnham says we must “look straight at democratic interference”, implicitly around #EUref, does he wonder how his ilk __resist__ such influence? Or whether Russia, China and Iran might “interfere” to push Left/Green issues such as #NetZero or anti-Zionism?
October 14, 2026 at 12:32 PM
I tried to persuade coalition govt to have #FOM registration scheme (as I'd had in Belgium) BEFORE #EUref. So they could say & show that FOM was conditional. Response: virtually all EU citizens meet FOM conditions so there's no point. grrrr

…and the multiple global megacrises since the date of EURef:
- DonaldT
- CV19
- Ukraine
- Climate emergency
- Rise of Techbro-driven disinformation
…have forced the EU to evolve & adapt quickly without the U.K. If UK wants to ‘rejoin’, it will be joining a very different institution vs 2016.

It's a technical political question and both major parties were saying "No, AV is bad" so I think the main question upshot is "32% is actually quite high".

Contrast with the EuRef is useful because Labour was split - but not split enough to make a real fight of it.

I’m not that bothered if we have an another EUref campaign, what worries me is that the Rejoin campaign could be run/advised by the same idiots who were involved in StrongerIN/PV groups.

Those peoples shouldn’t be anywhere near it,we need people who know how to win, not who know how to lose
On rejoining the EU

Support: 55%
Oppose: 34%

... but on the conditions of single currency and Schengen membership

Support: 35%
Oppose: 43%

Do I really have to spell this out..?

EU countries did not get to vote in the #EUref. That was a decision for the UK alone.

If you're sharing a flat and decide to move out your flatmates don't get to vote to force you to stay.

This is complete nonsense. There is no requirement for a referendum to be won in the polls before it can take place for real. The #EUref for example went ahead even when Leave were in the minority. It is profoundly undemocratic to make special rules for specific issues. 🧵
September 29, 2026 at 2:25 PM
I don't think it's fair to require that a referendum be won in the polls before it can be put to the vote.

A real vote concentrates people's minds in a way polls don't. A good campaign can change people's opinions.

A solid base of around 1/3 voters ought to be sufficient - eg #EUref.

It was time immediately after EUref in 2016.
It was time in 2017 when support switched to Remain.
Support has only grown since.
We really should Rejoin.

The capacity of parties to change Vector is limited - running this model, you can see Cameroonian moderation and the great realignment post-euref, but it's not actually a huge movement for the Conservatives.

Referendums come "once in a generation" so indyref 2039, euref 2041.

Admittedly where far right parties win (including the EURef) there seem to be lots of voters who have not voted before. This is also true where AfD win in Germany. People whose main opinion is racism now finding a political home😱
