ESMA Authorises EuroCTP As The Consolidated Tape Provider For Shares And Exchange-Traded Funds
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU’s financial markets regulator and supervisor, has authorised EuroCTP B.V. (EuroCTP) to operate as the Consolidated Tape Provider (CTP) for shares and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Natasha Cazenave, ESMA’s Executive Director, said:  “This authorisation marks a key step in the implementation of the consolidated tape framework, strengthening the transparency and efficiency of EU equity capital markets.  By bringing pre-trade and post-trade data from multiple data contributors into a single stream, the CTP for shares and ETFs will give market participants a comprehensive view of trading activity.  It will thus support better price discovery and facilitate more informed investment decisions for EU and international investors, contributing to the objectives of the Savings and Investments Union.” Retail investors, academics, civil society organisations and regulators will be able to benefit from the data free of charge. Other users will have access to the data for a reasonable fee and will be able to use it for internal purposes and with clients. ESMA has granted EuroCTP a transition period until 30 September 2026, to allow for the finalisation of operational and technical arrangements required for the start of the service. After the transition period, EuroCTP will be responsible for operating the consolidated tape for shares and ETFs for a period of five years under ESMA’s direct supervision, in line with the MiFIR framework. The five-year period will begin on the date EuroCTP starts its operations. ESMA encourages data contributors and other market participants to maintain a high level of engagement with EuroCTP to ensure a smooth and timely launch of the consolidated tape activities. EuroCTP Real-Time Feed Available Through Exegy’s Axiom
EuroCTP’s real-time multicast FIX SBE feed, the EU’s first real-time pre- and post-trade Consolidated Tape for shares and ETFs, will be available through the Exegy Ticker Plant (XTP) appliances and Axiom consolidated market data feed when EuroCTP goes live on September 14th. Building on its strategic technology partnership with EuroCTP that was initiated in 2024, Exegy now serves as a redistribution partner for the real-time EuroCTP feed that includes the European Best Bid and Offer (EBBO) computed by Exegy’s market data technology platform. The same underlying technology powers Exegy’s Ticker Plant and appliance and Axiom market data-as-a-service solutions, which provide access to real-time market data from more than 300 venues worldwide. Exegy’s platform delivers a unified way to consume normalized data in multiple trading environments, allowing clients to gain transparency and price discovery for global multi-asset strategies. The addition of the EuroCTP real-time market data feed, including the EBBO, adds consolidated trading activity from roughly 130 European trading venues and reporting platforms. Arnaud Derasse, CTO of Exegy, said: “Our mission is to help capital markets participants navigate the financial landscape with more efficiency and transparency. From enabling the technology layer of the EBBO with our FPGA-accelerated Ticker Plant, to giving immediate access to new data feeds to clients, we are continually focusing on what the market needs. Axiom enables firms to take full advantage of their trading strategies without requiring an internal rebuild to access the EuroCTP tape, helping reduce onboarding time, costs, and operational complexity.” The EuroCTP real-time multicast FIX SBE feed will be available on Axiom as soon as the tape goes live in September. Through Axiom, firms will be able to access the European consolidated tape with no additional operational overhead. This helps firm future proof their market access and gain streamlined access to accurate, timely European market data.

EuroCTP Partners With Exegy To Power The European Union’s First Equities Consolidated Tape
EuroCTP, the European initiative delivering the EU’s first real-time pre- and post-trade Consolidated Tape for shares and ETFs, has selected Exegy, the global leader in high-performance market data and trading technology, as its core technology partner. Under this collaboration, Exegy’s ticker plant technology will power the data normalization and consolidation engine of the platform, contributing to a robust and resilient consolidated tape.   Following its official selection by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) in late 2025, EuroCTP is building a unified, real-time view of trading activity across more than 130 European trading venues and reporting platforms. The service, designed by EuroCTP, is targeted for a July 2026 launch and will provide the official European best bid and offer (EBBO) as well as comprehensive access to European trade data, ultimately enhancing transparency and price discovery for all market participants.  Exegy’s solution will act as the market data engine for EuroCTP’s downstream applications, integrating with its website, data lake, and real-time data distribution infrastructure. The high-capacity, FPGA-accelerated Ticker Plant is designed to consume pre-trade and post-trade data from trading venues and APAs, then compute the EBBO, ensuring the highest level of accuracy and speed for market participants.  “Exegy is honoured to provide the state-of-the-art foundation for this transformative project,” said David Taylor, CEO of Exegy. “Building an Equities consolidated tape across the fragmented European landscape requires proven experience in mission-critical roles and technology that provides the necessary level of capacity and reliable performance. By delivering purpose-built FPGA appliances and providing a comprehensive 24/7, ‘Follow the Sun’ managed service model, we are helping EuroCTP create a robust, efficient, and future-proof platform that supports the next generation of growth in European capital markets.”  “Selecting Exegy as a strategic technology partner was a critical milestone in our mission to foster transparency and equal access to market data,” said Eglantine Desautel, CEO of EuroCTP. “EuroCTP is committed to delivering a consolidated tape that serves retail and institutional investors alike. Exegy’s proven track record, building on its history of powering the Canadian Equities Consolidated Tape and supporting a large number of industry participants with high industry standards and operational resilience, is crucial to delivering on our promise of a more integrated EU Single Market.”   Building on a collaboration initiated in 2024, including the successful development of a prototype consolidated data feed featuring the novel EBBO computation, EuroCTP and Exegy are working closely together as European trading and trade publication venues are onboarded ahead of the go-live later this year.

EuroCTP, a European initiative set up to develop and deliver the EU’s first real-time pre- and post-trade Consolidated Tape (CT) for financial equity trades, has selected Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the world's digital infrastructure company®, to provide one clear, reliable feed of trading activity across all EU venues. The move is set to improve transparency across the EU financial landscape, paving the way for lower transaction costs, improved price discovery, and greater investor confidence in the fairness and efficiency of the region’s markets.  Having been appointed by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA)—the EU’s financial markets regulator and supervisor—the tape will have its digital foundation in Equinix’s FR2 data center in Frankfurt, Germany. The facility was selected for its connectivity to key European markets along with Equinix’s proven reliability, rich connectivity ecosystem and sustainability credentials.   “Equinix FR2 provides EuroCTP with the ideal foundation to drive growth, ensuring we can reliably meet the evolving needs of our platform and customers. The site is already directly connected to major EU financial venues and data consumers; this established connectivity makes it an ideal location for low-latency access and seamless cost-efficient integration with the core financial ecosystem. Partnering with Equinix’s world-class facility in Frankfurt contributes to the delivery of resilient, sustainable, compliant, and scalable services that meet the highest standards and the needs of the industry,” said Eglantine Desautel, CEO of EuroCTP.   EuroCTP’s system is built to capture real-time pre- and post-trade data from all trading and reporting venues across the EU, bringing everything together in one place. Improving ease of access, users can gain a complete and immediate view of all shares and exchange traded funds (ETFs) trades executed in the EU, including the consolidated best buy and sell orders available at any point in time. EuroCTP will work closely with ESMA on authorisation processes, targeting a go-live of Q3 2026.   EuroCTP’s collaboration with Equinix ensures compliance with key regulatory standards set out in Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation (MiFIR) and Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA)—in 2025, Equinix secured designation by Europe as one of only 19 firms deemed “critical” suppliers under the DORA legislation.  EuroCTP is also deeply committed to responsible environmental practices, seeking a facility with strong energy-efficiency performance and a projected Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) within target range, aligned with the European Code of Conduct on Data Center Energy Efficiency.    “Equinix welcomes EuroCTP and this new European market infrastructure into its FR2 financial services community. The reliability, security and efficiency of digital infrastructure are crucial for financial players and their trust in our data center ecosystem is important to us. We use advanced security capabilities, techniques and procedures to safeguard our sites, and our five nines (99.999%) reliability is a benchmark of excellence. Achieving this involves significant financial, operational and time investments, and is something the company is committed to,” explained Eleni Coldrey, Financial Services Director for EMEA at Equinix.
