Interestingly based on Eurobarometer and Pew I think Italy is actually the inverse of Greece on same-sex-marriage specifically. It polls well (although not as well as many of its peers) and the % who think homosexuality is morally acceptable is high, our politicians are just in with the Vatican

Oh my god. They just don't know what the EU is for. (Since I have it open, here's the spring Eurobarometer, top two reasons why people trust the EU)

It’s worth saying that in the most recent Eurobarometer, about 70% of EU citizens polled said they talked “occasionally or frequently” to friends and family about the EU. Of course they may have been lying. Same poll showed that 51% trusted the EU (compared to 39% national gov and 63% local gov)

Nice try, but that's a fail.

The Eurobarometer survey does not ask Irish people if they want to join Schengen- presenting it as proof is laughable.

Secretdiplomat is also not trustworthy- it's just a sockpuppet account for Niall Ó Conghaile, who pretends to be all-knowing on EU stuff but fails.

Eurobarometer results show that people have more faith in a European army that doesn’t even exist than in national armies. I think the case for EU security can be made with the electorate, but apart from Volt Europe, politicians are nationalists and rather not explain EU too much to voters.

Eurobarometer framing was considerably higher than contemporary UK polls (while lower for the UK than other EU states). It makes sense to look at the fluid answers when framed in different ways, esp if this would be contested in elections + referendums

Europeans remain wary of innovative foods despite recognising benefits
A majority of Europeans have a negative view of innovative food products, despite recognising their potential to help farmers tackle climate change and other challenges, according to a European Commission survey published on Monday that highlights widespread gaps in public awareness and understanding across the EU. The Special Eurobarometer on food innovation found that 51 per cent of respondents had a negative view of innovative food products, compared with 39 per cent who viewed them positively, while 72 per cent said they did not feel well informed about innovative foods, ingredients and crops. The findings suggest that although Europeans recognise the potential benefits of innovation in agriculture and food production, greater transparency, accessible information and public trust will be essential to its wider acceptance. Almost 7 in 10 respondents, or 68 per cent, agreed that food innovation could give farmers and food producers additional tools to address challenges including climate change, pests, resource scarcity and supply disruptions. Among the innovative food products presented in the survey, fruits and vegetables from crops adapted to drought, pests or extreme weather received the highest level of acceptance, with 50 per cent of respondents saying they would feel comfortable consuming them. However, attitudes varied...

FoM did better with UK respondents in Eurobarometer than in national polls. I think this is prob because the Eurobarometer framing is the most popular way to describe FoM [can work in other EU countries, reciprocally to other people being able to do that in your country too]
October 24, 2026 at 9:35 PM
Yes, I think that's right. This is national/European identity (Eurobarometer, 2015). If UK is so much lower on European identity, then FoM is going to be "immigration" here, whereas a very high European identity could make it a form of internal labour mobility across Europe, not part of "immigration"

New Report: 9 in 10 eggs and egg products imported into the EU now come from caged hens. The EU’s forthcoming import requirements must cover both shell eggs and processed egg products to ensure that eggs from caged hens don’t enter the EU market. www.animalpolicyinternational.org/post/eu-egg-...
EU Egg Imports: Nine in Ten Come From Caged Hens
The European Commission's 2026 Eurobarometer finds 89% of EU citizens agree agricultural imports should only enter the EU if produced to the EU's environmental, animal welfare and labour standards. Support exceeds 75% in every Member State and has held steady for a decade. The finding lands as the Commission prepares its laying hens and broilers proposal, due by the end of 2026, which is set to include equivalent import requirements.

From memory, Eurobarometer polling showed the UK as much less positive about FoM for years before the referendum, when it was the most popular aspect of membership in most countries.
