The Portuguese context: The minimum wage in Portugal is 920 euros (one of the lowest in the eurozone), and the average salary is around 1000 euros. The government decided in recent weeks to approve a new rent law that sets a rent of 2300 euros as affordable.

if we can't even demand schengen or membership in the eurozone, will we be able to demand enforcement of the ECHR? it's not looking great

Yes, and it's probably a far better example of the eurozone affect

Debt ratios are broadly similar, one is a growing economy in the eurozone and despite political uncertainty is still considered a better bet

I find it disturbing that so few people want to make a positive case for the eurozone, or seem to be disappointed that our economy is so far from being compliant

My economics degree and twenty years as an FX trader in the city tells me that being part of the eurozone would be hugely beneficial

Klaas #Knot recounts his own intellectual trajectory and explains his changes of views on key #Eurozone issues, from pure central banking (asset purchases, LOLR) to fiscal-monetary cooperation & joint borrowing.

Fascinating read, which shows just how much Eurozone policy debates evolved since 2010.

Hey freaks, I’m traveling this week, going to be playing some rad improv with @chtctr.bsky.social and Sheila Bosco in Brussels, Antwerp and Sonic City Festival in Kortrijk. International travelers and Eurozone regulars take note.

100% based. This is blowing up in the face of those in the Eurozone.

How about legality and the fallout to the Eurozone (if your refer to Euroclear). The first is not exactly a clear (AFAIK) and the second is a risk Belgium did not want to take.

The rulemaking ‘farce’ that has banks and insurers at loggerheads
The ‘Danish compromise’ makes it easier for Eurozone banks to own insurers, but the latter think it confers an unfair advantage

I think the fact that France pays a lot less for 10 year debt today than it did in 1995 tells us all we need to know about how the eurozone helps

Without it France would be paying 1% or more more (apologies for the stutter)
