Amazing work on cleaner shrimp / fish mutualism in @EleanorCaves #ASNAmNat young investigator prize talk. Incredible videos of the interaction and inspiring talk. #Evol2019

Almost to Providence for #Evol2019! I'll be talking tomorrow in the 1st eco-evolutionary dynamics session about why you as a biologist might care about this paper https://x.com/emilyldolson/status/1058432021322780672?s=19. Also hit me up if you want to chat about spatial...

And lastly, here's the retweet network for #Evol2019. In general, it's pretty well connected (although slightly less so than in 2016). Some of this is driven by overall number of tweets, but not all (e.g. @ebsessa, @duffy_ma, and @mrvaidya are central despite fewer tweets)

Really cool opening talk of the evolutionary ecology session at #Evol2019 by Zachary Wood! He has a really cool experimental design for parsing out the effects of selection, plasticity, and stochasticity in mosquitofish.

Great talk on gekko diversification by @jamoaks: Island connectivity looks like it's less important for divergence than we might expect. Within-island habitat heterogeneity probably matters more. Cool phylogenetic methods too! #Evol2019

I like how @KAMarske provided such a succinct take-home message for her talk: "Biogeography shapes origin, ecology shapes migration." #Evol2019

Really cool talk by @VinCannataro on inferring effect sizes of mutations in cancer from data on how common they are relative to what we'd expect given mutation rate. And they released the technique as an R package: https://github.com/Townsend-Lab-Yale/cancereffectsizeR #Evol2019

Next, here's a word cloud of the most frequently discussed topics in the #Evol2019 hashtag. Really cool to see words like "childcare", "welcoming", and "diversity" in there - I think that illustrates all the effort that's been going into making this such an inclusive meeting!

Like coding evolutionary models in C++? Wish it were easier to have nice user interfaces without sacrificing speed or code maintainability? Come talk to me about the Empirical library at the #Evol2019 software bazaar! Or check out the docs (in progress):...

Fascinating work by @digitalwright on estimating the number of evolutionary trajectories leading to antibiotic resistance - he estimates there are ~100 for the example bacteria/drug pair he showed! #Evol2019

I tried re-running some of Twitter analysis that @tek_keller did for #Evol2016 on #Evol2019 (thanks to @CancerConnector for the suggestion and @ScarboroughJess for help doing it!). First, up we have total number of tweets (showing highest 40). @omearabrian's clearly in the lead!

"How do we better capture Jeremy Bearimy?" - this may be the best slide title I've ever seen. @pseudacris's talk is off to a great start. #evol2019

Has anyone else had problems paying for registration for #Evol2019? I cannot get it to accept my university travel card. @Evol_mtg @sse_evolution

Hey #Evol2019, come see my personal hero @JohannaHarvey15 talk about climate and host associations of avian malaria in room 557 @ 4:15. This is a side project from her dissertation that she’s worked her butt off on during her free time, all while finishing her cancer treatment!
