A huge thank you to all those who have contributed so far to #ExeterCivicSociety and #ChrisHoban's appeal for funds to commemorate #lifesaver Thomas Gregory's amazing life with a blue plaque!
Please re-post or tell your friends!
Thomas Gregory the lifesaving boatman of Exeter Quay deserves to be better remembered. Please support the crowdfunding appeal by #ExeterCivicSociety and songwriter #ChrisHoban to put a blue plaque on what was his home, now part of the Prospect Inn. www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/a-blue-pla...

And it’s thanks to the efforts of #exetercivicsociety that the Higher Market survived a later plan to demolish it in the 1960s .
Agree that the interior is a bit lacking, but the exterior infinitely better than eg the Guildhall Shopping Centre next door.

📷:📖Discovering Exeter - Countess Wear by #ExeterCivicSociety available from @rammuseum.bsky.social

'Countess Wear Inn' that became the first 'Countess Wear Hotel', demolished and replaced/relocated by the hotel on the roundabout to which I referred.

This book is excellent & well worth cost of £5.
