Stage 4: Blame Externalisation
Rather than fixing the problem, the institution lashes out:
- Dissenters
- Watchdogs
- Journalists
- Marginalised groups

Blame becomes a weapon — and the narrative radicalizes.

SUVs are a perfect example of cost / risk externalisation.
As the article (in thread) says, outsize SUVs cost the public purse more in terms of strain on the infrastructure & pollution, and are far more dangerous for pedestrians & cyclists. Yes, we should tax them and their usage heavily. Why on Earth should the rest of us subsidise this obnoxious trend?
Large SUVs are too big for parking spaces and dangerously heavy in crashes - time to bring in weight and size based charges?

“In 2024, a record 1,213,385 cars wider than 1.8 metres were sold.”

Though we can't be sure in any one case, it's such a common pathology among certain types of privileged people that I suspect it might be transferance: the redirection of trauma and self-hatred. What presents as mocking self-confidence could reveal deep insecurity and/or externalisation of fear.

Amusing: Google does not allow its devs to use its newly launched IDE, Antigravity, for development.

Classic example of “externalisation” at Google: they have an *internal* (increasingly different!) version of it, but they won’t use what they launched to everyone else

I hope liberal and left-wing Americans defeat Trump and all he stands for, but if they want to put America's relationship with the world on a more sustainably realistic basis they need to stop viewing every geopolitical crisis or conflict as a mere externalisation of domestic American culture wars

Oh goodie, more externalisation of borders, because it isn't like that has been tried, and failed, for decades already.

Fantasy fiction, by contrast, imagines the world as an externalisation of inner turmoil. The world of fantasy is a metaphorical construct which mirrors human failings and fears - greed, predation, death, mutilation etc.

1/ As the EU pushes its borders further outside its territory, they call it "innovative". It's not.

Our recent analysis challenges the assumptions that many externalisation researchers and journalists may hold about externalisation.

A recommander ⤵️

Because the intent was to create an externalisation of what's inside Ed Sheeran's head, his mind made manifest, and they succeeded

The rise of the far right is driven by people wanting to protect the privilege they already possess.

Not by those who are most oppressed. The externalisation and Othering of the problem is part of the cycle.

Uninsurable nature of #nuclear should end the debate in any system that claims to respect markets, responsibility, or realism. If a tech can't exist without forcing unborn humans to absorb its catastrophic downside, it's not a solution. It's a temporal externalisation of risk disguised as progress.

I just thought about it and realised:

I have never believed in the concept of

- white cis fossil patriarchy
- billionaires
- externalisation of destruction and
- hatred
.

I simply have a great desire for humanity.

What´s wrong with me??

As pointed out by one person on #r4today, externalisation policies, where the EU pays other countries to prevent people seeking asylum from reaching its borders, at "best" delay people, but they don't stop people. Those delays are caused by people making longer, more dangerous, journeys.

Externalisation of migration: Fortress Europe now has a watch tower in Libya | Matthias Monroy
An EU-funded project is providing the Libyan coastguard with new capacities. After eight years and expenditure of almost €60 million, these should now be ready for use – at least in part. After years…
