I don’t know what that looks like, or how it would work, and I don’t know that I can blame anybody working within the system we have particularly for not finding and using these extrasystemic means, particularly as the attackers control some of the levers.

Laut Our World in Data, stieg die Zahl der Kriegstoten in Europa ab 2022 massiv an. Die Jahre 2022–2024 sind die tödlichsten in Europa seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. Kein anderer europäischer Konflikt seit 1945 hatte so viele Tote in so kurzer Zeit.

Activism needs to recognize hollow extrasystemic action has achieved nothing but discredit activists and the public's faith in anything of durable value being possible from it.

That's starved people of hope and crushed civil society.

We need more than marches. We need mature competitive leaders.

159,837 people died in conflicts, in 2024.

That doesn't even include "excess deaths", caused as a result of war.

We must remember them all.

We must bring an end to war, before war brings an end to us.

Well...when exactly were you a kid on this chart?

P.S. Not a fan of Stancil, I take it?

ourworldindata.org/grapher/deat... I don't know how reliable the date here is, but I expected a bigger increase.

Yeah, thats why I specifically said extrasystemic, because trying to codify these rules means they’re subject to capture just like any others.

I’m old enough to remember too.
The world has certainly become more violent and fragmented.

What's remarkable is that the Eisenhower era was essentially the most peaceful 8-year period of the 20th century.

Indeed.

(It was suggested I consult total mortality counter, but that only supports the claim in a narrow sense, while demonstrating that treating the 30-year period as the same block is...unwise. Not to mention the implications of Tigray deaths outweighing Ukraine even in 2022.)

Take a look at this chart. Take a really good long hard look at this chart.

Do we really want to return to an era when defense pacts between democracies are nonexistent?

Hard to describe the coarsening I feel personally and desire for people hurting the system to be punished in extrasystemic ways...

Ich denke, wir haben von den meisten militärischen Konflikten, die seit Vietnam weltweit passierten, nicht mal annähernd so viel erfahren, wie jetzt durch´s Internet u. Social Media.

Build an extrasystemic economy.

Starve the beast.

Support one another.

We build in the ashes.

"Liberal democracies...are by their nature fragile; they are riven with contradictions & vulnerable to systemic abuse, & their stated ideals are so frequently violated in practice that they awaken resentment, opposition, & a yearning for extrasystemic solutions."

Theodor Adorno and the Crises of Liberalism
At the center of Adorno’s work was a reminder that fascist movements are not exceptional to liberal democracy but signs of its failure.

The System as an interconnected set of regulations, norms, institutions, and people has failed.

This must be acknowledged.

This does not mean any and all systems are discredited but this specific system is. Extrasystemic action is not a sin- it is a necessary admission of failure and change.

Another example is the Historical Conflict Dataset (HCD), which merges multiple existing datasets on wars from 1816-1945 to create a comprehensive list of interstate, intrastate, and extrasystemic wars during this time period.
