It’s weird to me that people think the Exxaro CEO’s suspension is race or gender related. Exxaro has been under black leadership for a long time and its board has a lot of black women. We need to have an honest conversation about how some black female execs lead. Why younger women prefer male leads.

South African coal mining group Exxaro says China's renewable energy boom "will limit any significant price increases" for low-CV thermal coal in the export market.

It also says coal demand is weak in Europe. Coal now makes up less than 10% of the EU's electricity mix.

Exxaro delivers strong returns despite challenging year, makes strides in renewable energy projects
Diversified natural resources company Exxaro Resources has reported strong operational and financial results for the year ended December 31, 2025, amid the realisation of its diversification strategy. The company reports a 3% year-on-year increase in group revenue to $41.8-billion, with coal production and sales having both increased by 1% to 39.9-million and 39.6-million tonnes, respectively. Coal export sales also increased by 2% to 7.1-million tonnes, mainly driven by an improved performance by State-owned Transnet Freight Rail, as well as the efficiency of Exxaro’s alternative distribution channels. Moreover, despite export coal prices having dropped by 14%, group earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) remained steady, declining marginally by 2% to R10.2-billion, compared with R10.4-billion in financial year 2024. The company notes that cash generation remained robust, adding that its equity-accounted investments in iron-ore and base metals continued to enhance the quality of the company’s earnings. As a result, headline earnings per share (HEPS) increased by 8% to R32.47 a share. During a financial results presentation on March 19, CEO Ben Magara noted that Exxaro had guided its coal production and sales for 2026 to between 39.4-million and 42.8-million tonnes. Export sales were expected to be between 7.3-million and 8-million...

Exxaro lifts revenue, continues to scale renewable energy business
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Despite heightened geopolitical tensions, increasing inflationary pressures and broader macroeconomic headwinds, South African resources group Exxaro delivered a strong first-half performance, driven by disciplined strategy execution, operational excellence and underpinned by its commitment to achieve zero harm, the company reported on Thursday, August 20. Overall group revenue increased 7% to R22.1-billion, primarily driven by the coal and energy businesses, with earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) flat at R5.6-billion. The renewable-energy business continued to scale, with energy generation increasing by 12% to 378 GWh. Cash generation was up 15% at R6.1-billion, enabling Exxaro to fund sustaining capital, energy expansion capital and dividends. Headline earnings fell to R3.2-billion on lower equity-accounted income from Sishen and Black Mountain. This was partially offset by the contribution from manganese, which contributed to the group Ebitda for the first time for the last four months of the reporting period. The group closed the half-year with its best safety performance since listing in 2006, with its injury rate improving year-on-year by 60% to 0.02 per 200 000 worker-hours worked. Zero work-related fatalities marked four consecutive fatality-free years. “The ongoing implementation of the safety strategy and the commitment of all employees to...

Exxaro Resources’ acquisition of Ntsimbintle and OM Holdings’ manganese assets is more than a strategic minerals grab; it’s a post-coal pivot, a consolidation of black industrial capital and, potentially, a power move following months of executive turbulence.

Exxaro marks 20 years of building resilient communities and sustainable local economies to create impact beyond the surface
Exxaro Resources is marking 20 years of advancing sustainable social impact through long-term investments in communities across South Africa. Since inception in 2006, Exxaro has spent over R70 billion on creating meaningful impact through inclusive socio-economic development, empowering local communities and contributing to sustainable livelihoods that extend beyond the life of mining operations. Through a strategic approach aligned with the organisation’s Sustainable Growth and Impact (SG&I) strategy, Exxaro continues to invest in education, enterprise and supplier development, and land rehabilitation initiatives designed to create enduring social and economic value. The SG&I strategy is centred on supporting scalable socio-economic upliftment, creating opportunities that strengthen community resilience and adopting an integrated, multi-stakeholder approach to building sustainable futures for communities and local economies. “Our approach to social impact is rooted in partnership, inclusion and long-term sustainability. By working alongside our communities and other stakeholders, we aim to create meaningful impact that supports both economic resilience and shared prosperity. Mining has a responsibility to contribute to sustainable development in a way that extends beyond operational timelines. At Exxaro, we are focused on helping build resilient communities and future-ready local economies that can continue to grow long after mining activities conclude,” says Neo Monareng, Executive...

Anglo, Sibanye and Exxaro lead SA mining's shift to renewable power
South Africa’s mining companies are accelerating their shift towards renewable energy as they seek to reduce electricity costs, improve energy security and cut their reliance on Eskom. Major mining groups including Anglo American, Sibanye-Stillwater and Exxaro Resources are investing in or securing renewable power as the industry faces growing pressure to reduce emissions while maintaining competitiveness. Reuters reported that the move is being driven by miners’ efforts to diversify their electricity supply, lower costs and meet decarbonisation targets, although Eskom’s grid is expected to remain an important source of baseload power for years to come. Anglo American has taken a partnership approach through Envusa Energy, its joint venture with EDF power solutions. The company’s renewable energy platform has developed the 520MW Koruson 2 cluster, comprising solar and wind projects in the Northern and Eastern Cape. The cluster consists of the 240MW Mooi Plaats solar project, the 140MW Umsobomvu wind farm and the 140MW Hartebeesthoek wind farm. Envusa said the projects became commercially operational during 2026 and are supplying renewable electricity to mining operations including Kumba Iron Ore, De Beers and Valterra Platinum. The 520MW development forms part of a much larger ambition, with Envusa targeting between 3GW and 5GW of...
