Not sure how well known this is, but Naval Station Everett's inport DDs & FFGs got underway on 9/11 & steamed to positions off West Coast cities including Seattle.

They were prepared to shoot down any airborne threats as many in DoD believed the terrorist attacks would continue rolling Westward.

Thanks to the NCEES Foundation for helping us continue to educate K-12 students on careers in geomatics.

The project received $38K from NCEES this year based on a proposal by SFFGS Assistant Director for Geomatics Extension Katie Britt.

I suspect you might be overestimating both the relative size and the capabilities of the USN Pacific Fleet. The USN as a whole already has fewer warships than the PLAN, and the gap is only growing wider with every year.
