Wriothesley awoke long before the two of them, but that didn't matter. He was more than content to remain where he was, curled beneath the warm sheets and blankets, tucked between his mates. This was it, he'd decided, on this and every other morning he woke up here, curled safely in his nest. It was true, the bedsheets had seen better days, that they were torn in places by claws and fangs, stained by sweat and other bodily fluids, but he wouldn't have it any other way. Each and every one was a testament to the happiness he'd found. He never could have dreamed he would someday find himself smushed tenderly between the bodies of not one but two powerful leaders. Yet, here he was, with his face was mashed between Grandmaster Varka's hairy tits and Neuvillette curled around him from behind, breathing softly against the back of his neck. Gentle claws clutched Wriothesley's chest, holding him tightly but with great care. He could barely breathe like that. Could barely move. It didn't matter, though. "What's your greatest wish?" Sigewinne had asked him once, a long, long time ago. He hadn't known, back then. Now, he'd finally found the answer.

He smiles with silvered knives, his favourite words playing at nonsense, whip-sharp over the din of the card table. "All in," he says, light with laughter. As if he had not just hanged, drawn, and quartered a king of rats and swindling promises. He dodges a tumbler with a gentle tilt of his head. Waves for guards. Adjusts the face of his watch. When all is done, Ratio pretends not to see the shaking of his hands.

He washes his hands. Cups a drink under the tap. Stares at the wraith that haunts his back, flitting between cracks in glass. This thirst calling itself vengeance bleeds him dry. He's already forgotten how to create. But for him, for Ratio, for the future of some fragile thing he might call family once more—he will try.
