I had a lot of fun joining the challenge this year, and loved getting to explore more of Ellanor's MSQ journey in the prompts I was able to take on!

Day 23: Egress (Teen)

While resting in Ala Ghiri, Silva receives an abrupt linkpearl call from Hien. She offers him comfort and support upon hearing it was a terrible nightmare.

the drabble "cor meum vigilat" by meredactyl on ao3. the summary reads, "what is it all for, if there are no peaceful moments among the world-threatening disasters?" the notes indicate the piece was written for ffxivwrite2026 day 26 - susurrus. His head in Coultenet's lap, the Warrior of Light slept deeply for once, untroubled by nightmare or catastrophe. Soft, even breaths kept time as Coultenet turned the page of his book. Returning his hand to its place behind Sam's ear, he ran his fingers gently through bright ginger hair. The evening breeze through the open window carried the sounds and scents of Sapphire Avenue, tantalizing in their variety and comforting in their familiarity. When Coultenet looked up to gauge the time, a flock of doves passed the window, close enough for him to hear the rustling music of their wings.

You wake up. You find yourself in a room in The Roost. It is just before the break of dawn. You wash your face, and look in the mirror. The dark circles have deepened. The mask will hide them, so do not worry too much. It is an understandable consequence of what you have endured. And you still chose to rise in spite of your exhaustion. That itself deserves a bit of praise, ‘tis only a shame you refuse to listen to mine. You smile, and fasten the mask on. ‘Tis time to face the day and find another chance to become a hero. It will be different, you tell yourself. If you find yourself in another duty quickly today, you will be saved from needing to think about what has happened.

There was the time, for instance, when she singlehandedly put down a newly-summoned Ifrit, despite never having faced a primal before. Or the time she miraculously rode a suit of magitek armor out from an actively-exploding castrum. Or the time the father of all dragons had pierced through her very essence and stripped her of Hydaelyn’s blessing. And those were just the stories Aymeric had heard about, and had not actually personally witnessed. Such as when he watched her face down the Dravanian hordes on the Steps of Faith. Or when she appeared at his doorway, returned from the very edges of existence, beaten and bruised nearly to death, but insistent on having an important conversation. Or when he had borne her unconscious body all the way back to Ishgard from Gyr Abania, in dread that she, too, had been divested of her soul in the same manner as all her companions.
