“Starscream.” The named mech stands there, half bored and ready to flee. Megatron finally has him alone without the pestering of his trine and their newfound over-protective behaviour. Having seen their trine leader return from the dead - how easily his spark was extinguished. Faced with the reality that even someone as unkillable as Starscream could be killed. But Starscream stands before Megatron alive and whole; glittering paint job and a sight to behold. And all of Megatron’s prepared speeches, flowery words and decadent appeals die in his throat before they can make their debut in front of the Seeker. Words can not describe how grieved I am at how I treated you- It gives me great anguish to see you and not try to make amends- But none of these words would ever feel right. The poet in him had died long ago.

Idly, he traces the constellations that orbit the Earth with his optics. They're so different from the ones he memorized in space, and he thinks that he knew what these ones were called once. He'd probably known them better than the ones that orbit the distant planets he remembers. Now he only knows two or three here. He can pick out Cygnus, and the Little Dipper. He bets Juurouta would be able to tell him what they all were. Bull Armor too. … Windy would just make up new constellations to get a laugh out of him. He smiles and it's rueful, sad. His chest is tight, but he's used to that ache. (The ache is better than the crushing nothing from before.)

He holds up his servos, clamped together by stasis locks. “Look at me. I’m being returned to the mechs who think they own me! There is a saying on Earth - better to die on your feet than live on your knees.” His ex leutenant squares his shoulders and raises his doorwings, not allowing anymore weakness to seep through. "I am tired of living on my knees. We all are." “Windblade is- she has our top scientists on this. We’ll find a way to get rid of the coding.” “It’s too late. The neutrals are here, and they know how to use it. Fighting for us will start another war. So will handing us over. Either way, Earth will not survive. You can’t win.” Everyone calls him smug. But from where Orion is standing, he sees compassion bleeding from those optics. “You can’t save everyone.” And perhaps that is what has haunted his second in command these millions of years. Cursed to calculate the costs of their decisions. To see the number of lives lost, dwindling down the finite remainder of their people. The once infinite number of sparks counting down and down and down like a doomsday clock only Prowl can see. He sees them all reduced, unwilling to save the hundreds if it meant the lives of millions. “You always say that.” “And I’m always right.” He smirks.

He’d pushed Genya to take those classes hoping one day his sweet little brother would make it out of that impoverished life. He'd begged their mother to come to her senses. Begged god for Masachika's life. Begged god for Genya's. He asked for nothing and still received less. He asked to keep and instead it would be taken away.

In the back of his mind, he hears the hissing of leaking gas. The deep rumbling of the van tipped onto its side. The creaking of the tree they’ve just hit. There’s a sound, a growling, an animal. No. The thing he hears comes from the front passenger seat. Growling, gurgling like a man drowning. The quietest of them trying to scream, trying to be heard. I’m here, he wants to say. I’m here. But all he can do is groan in pain as the clouds in his head dissipate. Ear drums popping, clearing the way to hear a word stuck on repeat. No no no no no no no- “No no no no no.” Heat thrums through his body, sharp and white hot as he turns to see the strongest of them chanting one word over and over and over, reaching an arm over their youngest. Their maknae, looking for all the world, asleep if not for the spread of red dripping over one side of his face. He gasps in half aborted sobs. He’s the eldest. The leader. He should be leading them to safety; the only thing coursing through his mind as he struggles to get out of his seatbelt. A man in black robes, slender fingers stroking the strings on his bipa. If he struggles hard enough, he might be able to touch it once. He’ll have to work harder, break his spirit just to get to his father’s highest expectations of perfection. An outline of titles from my Demon slayer fic series: Unburdening of Shinazugawa Sanemi vi. Reminisence Time is not linear. It's alive. It lives and breathes inside every person. It exists in the blood pumping inside your veins. What are memories but a portion of time, captured and collected. What Is reminiscing if not a way to travel to a past long gone. If only that were true, then Keeho would reminisce forever. "Where's Intak?" "At the junkyard, looking for parts." "Right." "Bring him back in time for dinner." "Yes, mom." "Ass." They've been busy looking for ways to fix the server. Intak, doing Jongseob's job for him, collecting every piece of scrap metal available. Not knowing where or how they fit. Theo's been on kitchen duty lately; trying to distract himself with keeping them fed, clothed and sheltered. They have no time or energy for the bantering; for the kind of nonsense they used to do. They're in the find out phase of fuck around, and what they've found isn't exactly pretty. So they don't talk back, make jokes or be silly. Keeho tries anyway.
