#FILTERFEEDERS
off a ravaged shore,
plastic filterfeeders sift
scraps from acid sea
they wander the sea twisting like like paleozoic whirligigs soaking up microplastics and sunlight extruding polymer bones and following pollutant gradients as they drift. they beach sometimes, and villages turn up to drag their shivering frames back out to tide. they don't know what a fish is

Something very interesting I'd like to bring attention to is that this cell system means that sponges do not possess any internal tissues. They are simple as simple cam be!
They are also hermaphroditic filterfeeders.

I see! that would make sense for an evergreen state. Michigan ones are filterfeeders for biofilm and do contribute to detritivores, but they always hatch when the snow is still around so amphibians and predatory arthropods would also be dormant or away for migration

This is day 1, Alien, I wanted to go for a kinda free-floating wyrm drifting through space.

“ There's a measurable difference when the water's coming into the tank versus when it's coming out,” said Gus Perry, restoration and marine projects coordinator for the alliance. “We'll see green, cloudy, plankton-rich waters coming in, and then nice clear water on the way out.” #filterfeeders
Meet the mussels doing the dirty work of cleaning up Newtown Creek
