I asked Claude to tell me if Balrogs have wings; it stated that they do and cited a letter that Tolkien wrote to Forrest Ackerman in which he confirmed such. I checked The Letters of JRR Tolkien; the letter Claude cited exists, and was to FJA - but the verbiage about wings was entirely invented.
