Bukele's been a Kremlin stooge his whole life, too. FMLN was originally a Marxist-Leninist party in the 70's and 80's, and since Putin went full Nazi-Oligarch, so did Bukele.

He did apparently get expelled from the FMLN, and become something of a crypto bro. But that’s weird, too.

My generation of leftists was used to arguing about real alternatives to American imperialism (ANC FMLN PLO Cuba China). Today's young leftists came up in a unipolar world. Maybe this has something to do with the purity style of politics.

Though he did claim that the reason he chose the FMLN was to "break out of his comfort zone" as a businessman, so my suspicion is he was always this guy and chose the FMLN just as he thought it'd be easier to get elected.
