I grew up in a family influenced by Dobson & FotF. So did my wife. Her parents definitely listened way too much to his parenting methods. I got to read thru his book about puberty with my dad for the birds & bees talk.
Anyways, fuck that guy. Glad he's in the dirt.

This is good. I'm glad Sam included a section on Paul Popenoe, because his ideas definitely made it into Dobson's work (the FotF magazine included criticism of interracial marriage on "cultural differences" grounds at least as recently as the '90s, which somehow never gets associated with Dobson)

I think it's easy to miss this now, but back when FotF was doing a full court press on ex-gay propaganda, there wasn't much in pop culture to offset the messaging from FotF about how nobody wants to be queer, and that ex-gay ministries exist to help people exit a life they know is wrong.
