Fruits of this Opuntia sp. illustrate a defining feature of cacti: The inferior ovary is buried deep into stem tissue. The red flesh is mostly stem tissue. We know that because only stems have nodes, which are visible as clusters of tiny spines on the surface of the fruits. #Cactaceae #Botany 🌾🧪🌱
