As the chill of winter begins to loosen its grip and we edge closer to the promise of spring, one of the most welcome changes is the gradual lengthening

screw it, one last #Fubruary - Sworn to Justice (1996) - Cynthia Rothrock as a psychologist/psychic/kung fu fighter in one of the most preposterous & schizophrenic movies ever - equal parts kung fu comedy, Death Wish vigilante flick, Skinemax erotic thriller, and supernatural murder mystery.

#Fubruary é o fevereiro das fubanga?
#Fubruary Millionaire’s Express (1986) - a while since I last saw it, the “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World” of HK cinema, just about everybody who was anybody at the time is in it (other than Jackie), and it’s just a goofy fun mess, with a sloppy, occasionally turgid middle but an ASTOUNDING finale.

#Fubruary Woman Avenger (1980) -

Abbess: “Do not seek vengeance, don’t kill, show Buddha’s mercy”

Our heroine:

Possibly the least sleazy rape-revenge movie I’ve ever seen (a pleasant surprise). Solid old school kf from the always reliable Lee Tso-Nam.

I watched a handful of films for #FUbruary but this whole month has been kind of bust for me, feel like I haven't been watching anything...

I do think I’m done with Fubruary, need to shift gears. And finally finish off the Senritsu Kaiki films.

#Fubruary Nine Demons (1984) - Chang Cheh truly achieves peak gay when he has his hero fight an ice skate battle on a pond while wearing an open-chested shirt and purple tights and seeking vengeance for his “very close friend.”

There is also an old priest who can make dude’s shirts disappear.

#Fubruary Slaughter in San Francisco (1974) - San Fran. Interracial buddy cops. Wah wah pedal. Chuck Norris as the VILLAIN. This shit is 1974 AF.

Golden Harvest’s “American” flick is dull with indifferent fighting, except when Norris is on screen as the vicious big boss. Is Chuck best as a heel?

#Fubruary 18 Bronze Girls of Shaolin (1983) - I have a knack for parsing even the most nonsensical kung fu plots, but this one baffled me. Which combined with terrible comedy was not the best. Did enjoy the titular bronze girls though, and the Kung Fu Mystagogue-style trap labyrinth at the end.
February 24, 2025 at 5:24 PM
#Fubruary Battle Creek Brawl (1980) - Clouse can be a very good director, but goddamn he does not know how to film a Jackie Chan fight scene. The editing is slack, the camera angles are all wrong, it saps the dynamism out of the movement. Not terrible, but a poor US vehicle for Chan.

THE NEW ONE-ARMED SWORDSMAN
Dir: Chang Cheh
1971

#FUbruary 2025 continues.
David Chiang is fucking awesome as a one-armed swordsman. Not quite the same level as Wang Yu, but pretty damn great.
The fight on and around the bridge at the climax is awesome.
I highly recommend it!

Highly recommended.

#FUbruary 2025 Continues!
I'm a sucker for a blind swordsman tale and this one is a fucking belter!
Grimdark Chinese Zatoichi.
The kind of action I want to sink deep into a vein and all in a less than 80 minute package.

RIGHTING WRONGS
Dir: Corey Yuen
1988
#NowWatching

#FUbruary 2025 continues!
I watched the 96 minute Hong Kong cut.
Movie kicks all kinds of ass. Fun if you watch closely and see Cynthia Rothrock turn into Yuen Biao for a split second for a kick and then back again.
Magic!

#Fubruary Return of the Chinese Boxer (1977) - Jimmy Wang Yu is rarely the most dynamic in front of the camera, but he’s wildly inventive behind it here. He must have been watching Lone Wolf and Cub, we get kung fu zombies, a dude with radish knives, Jimmy balancing on the tip of a spear … /1

#FUbruary 2025 rolls on!
I've warmed up to Fu Sheng considerably over the years and he's great in this one along side Ti Lung! Seriously fantastic Shaw Brothers joint, worth your time, so check it out!
February 3, 2025 at 5:48 PM
Okay, I'm reminded this is #FUbruary so I should at least give a shot to (maybe?) a new to me Shaw Brothers kung fu joint!

I’m getting on my Fubruary shit starting today
February 3, 2025 at 3:12 PM
Hot damn! What a way to start #FUbruary!

Ive still got my VHS copy and it’s so grainy im surprised i could see anything during those closing scene. Plus “THAT” wet shirt scene has big black censorship bars across the screen and yet still received an 18 cert here in Blighty.
February 2, 2025 at 8:16 PM
Okay, hadn't heard about this, but I'm totally joining in. My #FUbruary will start tomorrow.
