So, I had originally planned to return Honeydew to her colony. But she only had one FVRCP shot (the full series is 3 shots for complete kitten immunity coverage) & needed her ear tipped. She stayed w/a rescue friend, waiting for her vet day. Well, now she has 2 shots & is in my house awaiting a 3rd.

Can confirm for those curious--even with rescue pricing on s/n, $250 for a cat that's been altered, vaccinated (often 2+ FVRCP), given multiple parasite treatments, fed and housed from intake through quarantine/foster to adoptable, is very, very low. And many strays require additional vet care.

Nolan, Owen and Patsy came through their spay/neuters just fine!

Esmerelda tested negative, got her FVRCP vaccination, and her ID chip. Michelle aged her at 18 months, and shaved her belly to check for a spay scar. She's going tomorrow to be spayed!

➡️Why Vaccines Are Vital for Your Cat’s Health!

Vaccines are essential to keeping our cats and kittens safe from harmful diseases. The core vaccines, like rabies and FVRCP, protect against serious illnesses and are required for all cats. #cats #shelterworkers

This National Cat Health Month and beyond, spread the word: VACCINATE cats!

Vaccination is a key step of #TNR (some even call it TNVR, or Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return). Rabies and FVRCP vaccinations are standard and should always be given.

Rabies and FVRCP vaccinations are standard for cats. FVRCP stands for “feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia.” This vaccine prevents three contagious and potentially life-threatening feline viruses!

When we provide access to care for cats, we never do things halfway! Every #TNR event we hold doesn't just spay or neuter community cats, it provides the most important vaccines and any other medical care a cat may need.

Vaccination is a must in our TNR work. Key vaccines: Rabies and FVRCP.

Thor and Princess needed an examination, treatment for fleas and ear mites, and a round of key vaccines: FVRCP and rabies.

Now, thanks to expert veterinary treatment, Thor can enjoy his golden years, and Princess can feel like the royalty she is!

I took my foster kittens to the shelter to get round 3 of the FVRCP vaccine, took them home, and fed them. They were so tired they fell asleep around their food bowl!

Please do this. Vaccinate all cats. Keep kittens updated. Kittens as young as six weeks can get an FVRCP shot. If you foster/do shelter work, consider a three-week booster schedule instead of four (this is the schedule I kept, per the vet's recommendation). You are not prepared for how brutal it is.
A warning to cat people, especially those in foster/rescue: Panleukopenia is going around this year and it's very bad! Make sure your cats are fully vaccinated!! It's included in the routine FVRCP vaccine and critical that your kittens complete the series.

More details here:
Feline panleukopenia
Feline panleukopenia is a highly contagious, potentially fatal disease in cats. Fortunately, there are highly effective vaccines available to help protect against it.

The panleukopenia virus is a nightmare 😓:
* often deadly for unvaccinated kittens
* highly contagious for cats
* very hardy, can lurk on surfaces for up to a year
* also known as Feline Distemper or FPV

👉🏽 Prevention is key, so keep your cat’s FVRCP vaccinations up to date.

3/3 That's a total goal of $25,000 for giving Tuesday. If we can raise that much it will help us provide the LC3 package of spay/neuter surgery, rabies & feline distemper (FVRCP) vaccines, flea/tick/parasite treatment, microchip, & an ear-tip for up to 250 cats!

$2 Tuesday 💉
FVRCP vaccines protect cats from deadly panleukopenia but are one of our most under-funded needs. Each shot costs ~$4, with boosters needed. Just $2 helps.
