#Fakelore
This is the day I hate being a Pagan because of ahistorical takes. I wish we had a Snake Day that wasn’t based on fakelore.

It’s not even December, and yet already the “Pagan Christmas” fakelore begins!

"Fakelore" I like that #frightclub

Apparently, this fakelore is the German-American equivalent of Irish people eating corned beef on St. Patrick's day.
Still a tasty tradition, though!
In Germany, sauerkraut is a traditional New Years Day food. By chance, my homemade sauerkraut was ready to eat today! We had a big helping with lunch -- it's super spicy and tangy and fantastic!
(The dog eat a piece that fell on the floor and ran away sneezing. Then she begged for more!)

Takk til bl.a. /the end.

Thrilled to welcome the excellent @morgandaimler.bsky.social back to Fabulous Folklore Presents to talk fairy courts from Scottish folklore, fakelore, why it's not a great idea to sanitise supernatural beings to suit modern sensibilities... www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Cr3...

As much as I love a good debunking of neopagan fakelore, I would also love to see a list of surviving customs that we know (or can be reasonably certain) actually do have pagan origins.

I was reading around about American tall tales on Wikipedia a while back, and a shocking number of *those* stories are “fakelore.” Pecos Bill was apparently invented in 1923!
It’s fascinating because the chupacabra feels like it should be an old myth and it’s literally a mid-90s thing

my favorite thing about Species (1995) is that some lady in Puerto Rico was watching Species and was like, “this is real.” and that’s how the chupacabra got invented

The Yateveo plant is native to Africa & South America, so named for producing a hissing noise similar to the Spanish phrase ya te veo ('I already see you') & having poisonous spines that resemble 'many huge serpents in angry discussion'.

Don't worry, it's not real. I hope.

There is also the ‘Fakelore’ I created on April Fools a long time ago called Snailing… I can’t remember the ins and outs these days! But the equinox was when youd find the biggest snail and go ‘a snailing’ house to house
The autumn equinox falls on 23 September (in the northern hemisphere in the UK, at least), and, as I'm looking at the Folklore of the Skies on Fabulous Folklore this month, I wanted to know...is there any folklore associated with the autumn equinox? Turns out...yes!

Again #fakelore

He is neither a folklore character nor a demon, and as a winter holidays figure was created by the Soviet government in the 1930s.

People who believe fakelore are just wrong or at the worst silly.
People who angrily claim that everyone in their country has believed for millennia some fakelore that was made up after disco went out of fashion, and use that to justify nationalist bigotry, are vile.

My face is permanently like this because people keep asking me to validate their fakelore that dates their favorite recipes to antebellum times nomatter what the recipe is

There's way too many fakelore among pagans taken as fact and too few who know their actual history

Friendly reminder to folklore folks that the wulver of Shetland was a 20th century invention by Jessie Saxby. For whatever reason the BBC did an episode about it on their Mythology podcast series perpetuating the fakelore

I made this pattern & embroidered it on a pillowcase because I am annoyed with people not knowing the Two Wolves story is fakelore.

Micro-folklore is a term I wish more people would adopt vs “memes” or “fakelore.”
