Gray fall day? Keep shooting. Clouds turn the sky into a giant softbox. Dial in +0.3 to +1.0 exposure compensation so the scene doesn't go dull, and set white balance to Cloudy to warm up the leaves.

Fall tip: earthy browns looking flat? Separate them with light, not saturation. Low side light lets lighter browns catch highlights while darker ones sink into shadow. That reads as depth.

Fall leaves looking flat? Add a polarizer and rotate it until the glare on the leaves fades. Then expose for the bright leaves, not the dark trunks. A dark file is easy to fix, a blown-out one isn't.

Fall color tip: orange leaves pop most against their opposite. Frame one orange branch against a deep blue sky instead of filling the frame with color. Contrast beats saturation.
