In case anyone missed the announcement, the VIC 20 Penultimate +3 Turbo Cartridge now includes a built-in fastloader, file browser and SD2IEC drive.

Remember the DolphinDOS x JiffyDOS patch for the #C64? It uses some of the superior disk routines from Dolphin with the Jiffy fastloader so you don’t need a parallel cable (just the Jiffy ROM in the disk drive). I just put it on my #C64Ultimate. Also: rainbow startup screen! csdb.dk/release/?id=...

The first C64 game I ever played, taking EIGHTEEN MINUTES to load from tape (3D Time Trek had a fastloader and took 3). I did enjoy it, but the flickering did affect gameplay as sometimes it was impossible to see the incoming bullets…

I had Double Dragon on my C64, and it was… rough. And since I hadn’t bought a fastloader cartridge, playing games from disk was a slog that required a lot of patience from a kid.

I drive this EV ( this is not my wife btw), off grid, load my own car with fastloader, heating/aircopump, solar panels, batteries. It was an investment yes. But now:
€35 a month ( taxes).
I know you drive huge cars so this one seem small but it is quite spacious.

I'm sure there was some music during the fastloader as well - will need to fire it up tomorrow to see if it's still as good as my memory of it

Kind of instant access. Some programs (.PRG, .crt) can be uploaded "instantly" to RAM and run, but .d64 images will load at traditional C64 speeds. You can use fastloader ROMS though to speed that up.

das merkst du nicht unbedingt, die wird nur für Fastloader benötigt. aber ich denke die Platine ist bei mir auch nur ein Montagsgerät. 🤪 deswegen werde ich nachlöten.

Aber nur wenn Du keinen Fastloader benutzt hast. Und nicht zu oft formatiert.

What I've managed to cobble together just from attempting to search around and find a context - the chip that is being piggybacked there is where the BASIC ROM normally lives. So whatever that mod does, probably modifies BASIC in some way - I'd speculate it's some kind of permanent fastloader?

For talking to a printer/plotter, you don't need to care about fastloaders, and the original protocol was intentionally slowed down to be implemented with software polling. I know GEOS has its own 1541/1571/1581 fastloader, but uses the KERNAL to talk to printers instead of reinventing the wheel.

Found out one issue of Loadstar has a licensed game on it with copy protection, having to configure VICE special for that one.
There's also issues with a fastloader, that not only require special configuration, but also need emulating a NTSC C64. I'm not sure how to set that up on the command line.

Problem with a Pi1541: it won't load with Action Replays fastloader, which works on another Pi1541. Is this maybe a problem with the levelshifters on the PiHat? I think someone mentioned these parts sometimes not being fast enough.
