6 months ago I teased the world of Unsaved in FebruaryWordbuilders. As the preorders for this science fiction novella are now live, I wanted to gather all the entries in this one handy thread.

Been sick the last few days, so I sadly missed a good few #FebruaryWorldbuilders. Hopefully I can catch up on March prompts!

The government has undoubtedly played a role in every Seeker novel so far. Most rulers will try to help Seekers along their journey, but a few will hinder them as well. Needless to say, when a legendary chosen one appears, most officials are gonna wanna get involved.
Hello there, #FebruaryWorldbuilders! How has the government impacted the plot of your story? Are they in the way of your MC? Are they oppression people? Or maybe your MC is part of the government?

Well, funnily enough, the impending threat of a civil war in Elux is kind of a massive plotpoint in Prideseeker. Certain individuals are... Less than pleased with some of King Laurel III's plans regarding the future of the country.
#FebruaryWorldbuilders, hello friends! How stable is the government of your fictional world? Are they doing alright, or is there a rebellion in the works? And is your MC involved in either side of that rebellion? 👀

Been sick all day. Will do #FebruaryWorldbuilders tomorrow, hopefully.

This is a little complicated, so let's run through this. There are, in total, 11 nations of note Theryl: Elux, Hol, Urgaia, Skogach, Hyo, Dhesa, Vienta, Pou, The Republic of Clu, The Letten Union, and the Empire-state of Donran.
#FebruaryWorldbuilders! Most of you have made worlds that have more than one country in them. How do those countries' governments interact? Are they diplomatic? Allies? At war? And if you're writing a book, how does that impact the plot or characters?

I've touched on it before, but Dhesa is a queendom whose monarch is chosen via a holy ritual as opposed to bloodline or election. The details of the ritual are largely kept secret from the public, but it's designed to determine if someone has the qualities of a saint...
Hello, #FebruaryWorldbuilders! You may have said this a previous day, but go into more detail today. What sort of government does your world have? Are there any interesting traits or quirks you've worldbuilt into the system? How does inheritance or elections work, for example?

There are a few councils of note in Theryl. The most notable is the Council of Overseers in Vienta. This organization is made of five seats, each responsible for managing a different aspect of the country.
Hello, #FebruaryWorldbuilders! Are there any councils or other groups involved in government in your world? If you have a monarch, do they have a council who they listen to? If you have a democracy, are they elected officials? An oligarchy?

King Laurel III is the reigning king of Elux in Prideseeker. He's a very pragmatic man, often regarded as being somewhat stoic, yet he knows how to appeal to public emotion and sentiment. Laurel III has some very grand ambitions, which will forever change the course of Elux...
Good morning, #FebruaryWorldbuilders! This week is sorta related to last week. We're talking about our fictional (fantasy/sci-fi/etc.) world's GOVERNMENTS. Remember to keep it to your fictional worlds!

Today's prompt: talk about a ruler in your world. What is their title and what are they like?

We've touched on a few of the Divines' laws this month, but I guess now is a good time to go over specific creeds for the main seven.

Yalid: Knowledge must be recorded and preserved. The destruction or obfuscation of records, no matter the reason, is considered sinful.
Good morning, #FebruaryWorldbuilders. Are there any laws in your world specific to something in your worldbuilding? Something unique to your world? Perhaps something about use of magic or alchemy? Perhaps the gods demand something of your people?

Aka, the deity of darkness, is often also associated with justice. It is believed that the shadows know truths that are otherwise obscured from the light; hidden dealings, missing evidence and secret agendas all fall under Aka's purview.
#FebruaryWorldbuilders Does your world have any deities or important figures (historical or religious) who are associated with laws or the courtroom? Any gods or patron saints of laws, justice, etc.? How are they honored by legal authorities?

Drey (Sunseeker) has an all-around amicable relationship with the law. Despite him and Milo getting up to the occasional mischief, Drey respects the town guards who keep people safe.
#FebruaryWorldbuilders What is your MC's relationship with the law or law enforcement like? Are they law-abiding citizens with no problems? Are they on the run? Maybe tensions are rising? Or maybe they're actually involved in law enforcement?

Those who break the creeds of the Divines are generally exempt from that deity's protection or influence. Those who would harm travelers will like never receive the guidance from Tsal on their own travels, for example. Hunters who waste food won't get any help from Eminess.
#FebruaryWorldbuilders. Hey there, friends. Today's Q might be a brutal one! In your fictional world, how strict are the laws? Any particularly draconian ones? And what's kind of punishment can a person expect for criminal activity?

Courts are an aspect of Theryl's worldbuilding I admittedly haven't explored enough in-depth, but as stated before: many trials are overseen by the Sect of Shadows: those who worship Aka, the deity of justice and darkness.
#FebruaryWorldbuilders. What are the courts of your world like? Do they have juries? Does everyone have a right to an attorney? Any other interesting changes to how they work compared to courts in the real world?

Most nations have their own form of police, be they the knights of Elux or the construct guards of Vienta. That said, religious groups and organizations often tend to handle violations of the Divines' will directly. Those commit war crimes for instance, answer to the Branded.
#FebruaryWorldbuilders, good morning! In your fictional worlds, who is responsible for maintaining laws in your world? Is there a police force? Is it more community-driven?
February 17, 2026 at 12:41 AM
#FebruaryWorldbuilders
Laws are made by a mix of deities and mortals. The Divines have certain rules in place for their followers; Eminess, for example, demands that hunters never harm fellow humans and that every part of their prey that can be used must be. Vashamala has strict rules for warfare.
Hey, #FebruaryWorldbuilders! This week is about laws and the legal/court system in your fictional worlds. Today's Q: Who makes the laws? Does your world have a king? A council? An all-powerful God rules directly or through somebody else? Is it total anarchy? Just a village elder?

Nope! Time moves at the same pace pretty-much wherever you are in Theryl: the sun and moon birds take flight, soar high overhead, and then roost while the other one gets ready to ascend. That said, the concept of time does get wonky if anything ever happens to them...
#FebruaryWorldbuilders, let's talk about time shenanigans. Are there places or situations in your fictional world where time works differently? Do you have time loops, time dilation (sped up or slowed down), or time travel? Does your world branch into different timelines?

Theryl as most people know it came into existence after a long and arduous conflict between the first seven Divines and their primordial enemies: The Shayta. Only after emerging triumphant and imprisoning the Shayta in the underworld did the Divines begin to shape the world.
#FebruaryWorldbuilders Is the origin of your world known? Is there a creation story? If you have nonphysical realms, were they also created at this time, or did they come about through some other means? What do your characters believe? Does the world's religion have any thoughts?
February 14, 2026 at 1:34 AM
#FebruaryWorldbuilders
Souls are very real in Theryl. They embody the essence of who a person is and the memory of their existence. When the physical body dies, the soul enters either the Dream or the Nightmare, depending on the circumstances...
#FebruaryWorldbuilders. Are souls real in your world? Does anything happen to them after a person dies? Or, whether or not they know the truth, do your characters have any beliefs about that? Does your world's religion preach anything about souls?

As it happens, this is a major central theme of my fifth book, Fateseekers. The future can be foretold by the likes of seers, but the actual power and influence of destiny on the world, as well as its inhabitants, well... Perhaps you'll have to read the book to know more ;)
#FebruaryWorldbuilders Does free will exist in your world? If you have any kind of prophecy, fortune-telling, soulmates, or destiny in your stories, how are these reconciled along with the idea of free will? Do your characters have any beliefs on the matter?
February 11, 2026 at 5:59 PM
#FebruaryWorldbuilders
In the world of Theryl, there are those with the ability to gaze into the past or future: acolytes of the sun and moon, simply known as seers. By using special power made from the feathers of the sacred birds, Ruxima and Phela, seers can gaze through time itself.
#FebruaryWorldbuilders, good morning! Are prophecies or psychic abilities real in your world? How do they affect the world? Tomorrow I will ask about free will, so if you have prophecies, think about how that influences whether free will exists or not, and have an answer tomorrow😁

Simply put: by dying or dreaming. Those are usually the only ways to leave Theryl's physical plane. That being said, there are certain locations where the veil of reality is thinner than most. With the right knowledge and tools, one could pierce that veil and open a path...
#FebruaryWorldbuilders If you have nonphysical realms in your setting, how can they be accessed? Can characters go there or somehow 'see' inside it? Does something else live there and come out when summoned?

Theryl has two such realms to speak of: the Dream and the Nightmare (often referred to as the underworld.)

The Dream is said to be the final resting place of all mortal souls; a place where spirits reside after their time in the mortal world has ended.
Hey there, #FebruaryWorldbuilders. We're getting weird this week and talking about metaphysical aspects of our worlds. Do you have any nonphysical realms? Dream worlds, mind worlds, spiritual realms, a space of pure mathematics, etc. What are they in your setting?

There are quite a few fantastical plants of note in Theryl, but perhaps the most notable is Lespir, the god of plants himself. Said to take the form of a great tree, Lespir is the source of all other flora in Theryl.
#FebruaryWorldbuilders What are some flora or fungi found in a notable forest of your world? Are they real or did you make them up?

There are two deserts of note in Theryl. The first is Urgaia, which takes up most of the eastern continent of Primlan. Vast seas of sand stretch as far as one can see, though the sand slowly transitions into compact earth as one heads further north toward the Torman Mountains.
#FebruaryWorldbuilders, we're talking about the physical worlds of our fantasy/sci-fi stories. Do you have any deserts? Either of the extremely hot or extremely cold variety? What's it like? Do your characters ever go there (hope they came prepared!)
