For many people, football means cheering on the home team and tailgate parties, but at FedExField, football now conjures up another image — solar energy. The FedExField solar project is currently the largest solar panel array in the Washington, DC area, and was built by IBEW and NECA electricians. Independent power producer NRG teamed up with NECA contractor Truland Electric and their IBEW Local 26 electricians to install the FedExField solar panels and prove the potential of solar energy on a large scale. More than 8,000 solar panels make up this massive and complex solar installation. Not only was the project complex, it also had a tight time frame — as the home of the Washington Redskins, FedExField needed the solar installation to be complete and fully functional by the start of the football season. Truland Electric’s team of experienced IBEW electricians, who have done more than $500 million of solar installation projects over the years, made this goal a reality. They could go the other way with the stadium the Washington Commanders play in, which they made smaller, expand it to seat 100,000, but in an equal manner, so no box seats, and then they could have refreshments while they take votes. 😁

The Washington Commanders' home, Northwest Stadium (formerly FedExField), is 29 years old.

Soldier Field the historic home stadium of the Chicago Bears opened in 1924 and has hosted the team since 1971. It was refurbished in 2003.
It will host Liverpool FC vs Leeds United on Sunday 8/2.

The Washington Commanders will retire John Riggins' number 44 on November 8 against the Rams. Riggins, a Hall of Famer, led Washington in rushing yards and touchdowns and was the MVP of Super Bowl XVII. His legacy will be celebrated at FedExField.
