Sonoma County cities collaborate to present federal legislative priorities with lobbyists

Presenters gave a preliminary compensation estimate of about $4,250,000 for the proposed bridge/connection and said a congressional appropriation request of $2,000,000 would be sought; they said the project aligns with typical appropriation priorities.

Facing a potential federal shutdown and an appropriations window, the Murrieta council Dec. 2 kept current federal/state legislative workgroup assignments for continuity, authorized a near-term Washington, D.C. trip for existing representatives, and agreed to revisit appointments at the January meeting.

County staff told the budget committee that switching O&C lands to traditional receipts could boost near‑term county receipts by roughly 50% but stressed that increases depend on federal appropriations, timber volumes and a resource management plan; PILT and receipt timing remain uncertain for FY26.
