i think there is something about the way in which he is so obviously a depraved moron that makes the cult work, in the same way that extremely austere cults with extraordinary social control outlast more normal ones
I think the psychology of this is pretty fascinating, maybe I just find it hard to imagine wanting to join any cult of the personality. People say anyone can be susceptible to joining a cult but I just don't think so. I've never been inclined to think a politician I like was due reverence like this.
