Je hebt gelijk, maar niet op de manier dat je denkt. 2 bays is te weinig, en je hebt meer geheugen nodig.
De 2 GB in de TS-133 en de processor maakt het ding enkel geschikt als fileserver. Vergeet het om daar iets anders mee te doen.

Je hebt gelijk, maar niet op de manier dat je denkt. 2 bays is te weinig, en je hebt meer geheugen nodig.
De 2 GB in de TS-133 en de processor maakt het ding enkel geschikt als fileserver. Vergeet het om daar iets anders mee te doen.

In addition, these latest Xeon & other CPUs are stuffed with more cores with no concern about temp & power consumption for the first time in fileserver new generations. This is so under reported. It's why they are loud & use up so much power vs 2025 data centers. IT'S BAD TECHNOLOGY for AI GPUs

augh my fileserver fell over the day before I go on holiday for a week, and it seems to have taken my NAS drive with it. was thinking of overhauling it in a few weeks, hopefully I've not lost 10tb of data 😩

i am attempting to use it for a local fileserver experiment. it has been used for such a purpose before, with mixed results. i am aware that arch isnt the best platform for that, but i know how it works and it won't get in my way
its a dell inspiron 15 from who knows how long ago, if youre curious. the keyboard doesnt work and it random crashes and sometimes doesnt even make it to the bootloader

News orgs lack explaining differences between the different purposes of Data Center & how today's new data center processors & servers use up dramitically more power & resources then the last generation of fileserver. This is not a race between China & US as MLP Ventures would have you believe.

Yeah I decided it was finally time to replace my home fileserver in 2024 and started buying hardware. I still haven't actually put it all together and booted it up because I kept finding new hardware to add to it and I'm often distracted by other projects, but at least I got a lot of it cheap.

Dug my 'Harmonica for Dummies' ebook out of the fileserver to get back into this weekend. I picked it up years ago in a Humble music book bundle (I think I wanted the guitar book) and was forced to buy two harmonicas as a result. I'm still a pretty bad player though, more work needed. 🤭

Ich sag mal so: es ist eigentlich auch nicht schlimmer, als ein Fileserver („Gruppenlaufwerke“) nur teurer, und mit mehr Möglichleiten, es schlecht zu organisieren oder dämlich zu konfigurieren. Hmm. Also genaugenommen schon schlechter… aber vielleicht hat sich das bei Euch ja jemand gut überlegt!

Die zugrundeliegende Idee ist ja gut - Verschlagwortete Ablage, Suche über Metadaten… aber ich habe in all den Jahren nur gesehen, dass es eingesetzt wird, wie in Fileserver, mit manuell gepflegten Ordnern usw. Und dazu kommt, dass die Suchfunktion… naja sagen wir mal, da ist noch Luft nach oben.
