It’s wild how many Android-based devices exist that you have absolutely no control over. Tizen, FireOS, whatever Peloton runs on, basically any TV. This shit should be extremely illegal if only from an ewaste perspective.

That's true and I have issues with Apple as well, you should just be able to easily install Linux on Apple machines (Asahi notwithstanding). But Amazon devices are even more closed and less supported than even Apple devices, FireOS should not be legal.

Curious about this! Does lineage work well for all the same apps and stuff? I know fireOS I'd constantly calling home to Amazon so I block it with my pihole but would be nice to not have to do that.

In the case of INSIGNIA branded Fire TVs, they use Top Victory wifi modules or control boards, which then run Amazon's FireOS.
I'm guessing at some point FireOS changes the device name to the one I set, but until then, it identifies as Top Victory.
