American bathtubs also require a massive hole in the floor that needs to be carefully firestopped, due to the primary/overflow drain. Firestopping manufacturers even have special products for the compromised hole in the fire barrier.

Over the course of construction, buildings are inspected and approved by municipal staff at representative stages, including but not limited to the completion of excavation, foundation, framing, insulation, fire separations, firestopping, and prior to occupancy being permitted.

Fire- and life-safety systems are also inspected throughout their installations. To permit a building, or portion thereof, to be occupied, fire separations, firestopping, and all early warning & detection systems and fire suppression systems (sprinklers & standpipes) must be completed and tested.

A lot of weird firestopping and concrete tub can guesswork would be saved if we allowed either your European wall-draining tubs or narrower showers (with a requirement that the location of the adaptable bench be directly accessible from a wheelchair approach space outside the shower)

This cast-iron piping is manufactured in Quebec and is the only cast-iron piping foundry in the country (the US has 4 whereas Europe has somewhere over 15). Like the US, cast-iron is common for sanitary drainage and storm drainage systems. Costs at least 2x PVC but good for acoustical+firestopping.

That pink expanding foam is NOT a fire stop. It's flammable and creates a toxic smoke path. We seal penetrations with certified, compliant materials.

That expanding foam sealing a service penetration is not a fire stop. Standard PU foam offers zero fire resistance, creating a critical compliance failure.

Plastic pipes expand & contract significantly with temperature changes, stressing joints, hangers, & firestopping assemblies. Metal piping remains dimensionally stable, reducing system failures. buff.ly/0RFMHav

Our firestopping report shows why pipe selection matters in fire-sprinkler systems. Steel iron & copper resist temps up to 2,200°F. PEX fails at 430°F. CPVC combusts at 900°F. Fire-rated assemblies aren't optional. They're essential. buff.ly/zwAJfhr
