Tariff Burn: The Cost of Economic Firestorms
April 21, 2025 at 11:37 PM
California is immensely grateful to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation staff and hand crews for their tireless work helping to put out the firestorms across the Los Angeles area.

Their involvement was crucial in the combined response of local, state, federal, and international teams.

I’m directing California's emergency management and wildfire suppression leaders to implement new strategies for better protecting Californians from future firestorms.

We're fully committed to using creative solutions to tackle and prepare for extreme weather events.

This is an act of total cowardice.

It is also how you prevent party infighting stories from becoming media firestorms, by not saying anything that can give them oxygen.
Q: One of your members just said Hegseth has gone overboard on the firings. Do you have any concerns?

MIKE JOHNSON: Well, I have enough to say grace over in the legislative branch. I don't really get involved in personnel decisions at the Pentagon. I don't have the bandwidth.

Deeply moved by the resilient spirit of Los Angeles, from Altadena to the Palisades, as families who lost everything keep pushing forward.

Grateful to Foothill Catalog and Habitat for Humanity for helping survivors rebuild. So much more to do, and we won't stop until the job is done.

Donald Trump promised almost a year ago that he'd "take care" of rebuilding after the Los Angeles firestorms, but survivors are still waiting for him to officially ask Congress for relief.

It's long past time for Trump to wake up and do his job.

California is providing more food benefits for people in Los Angeles impacted by the recent firestorms.

Starting February 10th, I encourage eligible people to apply for CalFresh benefits, which will allow more people to access and put more food on the table.

In January, Donald Trump looked me in the eye on the tarmac, promising Angelenos that he'd help rebuild after the firestorms.

11 months later, he still hasn't delivered.

That's why I'm headed to D.C. to push for a long-overdue federal aid package for survivors.

Insurers must quickly — and fairly — process claims for homeowners impacted by the LA firestorms.

Companies that unlawfully delay or deny claims following this tragedy are subject to state enforcement.

Survivors need relief now.

Just as Oregon supported our state during the Los Angeles firestorms, we’re supporting our Northern neighbors with strike teams and fire engines to aid in their wildfire response efforts.

I’m proud California can lend a helping hand to fellow Americans in their time of need.

One year ago today, horrific firestorms tore through Los Angeles County.

The blazes tragically took 31 lives, destroyed thousands of buildings and homes, and displaced families and local businesses.
January 7, 2026 at 8:21 PM
After the LA firestorms, we've moved faster than ever to reduce wildfire risk, and we're maintaining this momentum by extending our fast‑track forest management program into the new year.

Our goal: cut through bureaucracy, honor environmental values, and protect Californians.

The LA Firestorms were apocalyptic.

The first responders were heroic given the devastation at scale.
January 6, 2026 at 3:22 AM
In remembrance of last January’s tragic firestorms in Los Angeles, I have ordered all flags on state buildings to be flown at half-staff.

For the 31 lives we lost, the heroic first responders, and the resilience of survivors now rebuilding — California will not turn away.

We're launching new online services to help connect survivors of the LA firestorms with resources and recovery aid.

California has taken coordinated action to support those impacted by the Los Angeles firestorms:
📝15 executive orders signed
💰$2.5B in disaster relief signed into law
⚠️8,148 properties assessed for hazardous materials
📩7,156 Right of Entry forms submitted

I'm announcing loan commitments from major lenders and expanded state mortgage relief for Angelenos whose home were damaged by last January's firestorms.

Deeply grateful to our partners for stepping up to help fill the gaps where the federal government is falling short.

Really captures what it means when emergency personnel and first responders said they were battling hurricane-force firestorms
Just got this video. The @lafd.bsky.social and @calfire.bsky.social had over 75 fire engines and pieces of equipment in place before the winds started and this is what they faced the first night. Just an insane situation to deal with and blaming it on anything other than nature is ridiculous.

NEW: 5 out of 9 water systems impacted by the Los Angeles firestorms are back online and fully operating with safe drinking water.

We're working closely with local water systems to get clean water back to our communities as quickly and safely as possible.

I'm calling on lenders to quickly and fairly release insurance proceeds for homeowners impacted by the LA firestorms.

Companies that unlawfully delay or deny access to insurance funds will be subject to state enforcement.

Survivors need relief now.

Just spoke with President Trump about the urgent need for Congress to quickly pass federal aid to help our fellow Americans recover from the devastating firestorms in Southern California.

The scale of destruction from these fires is historic, and assistance is needed to help rebuild.
February 6, 2025 at 1:05 AM
The Los Angeles firestorms have taken so much from tens of thousands of our fellow Americans.

In this devastating moment of need, our fellow citizens should expect compassion and support — not partisan politics.
January 18, 2025 at 8:53 PM
Recovering from the Los Angeles firestorms isn't just about LA emerging as one of the top cities in the world.

It's about coming back as the most important and essential city, anywhere in the world.

Trump talks tough from inside his Truth Social bubble, but suddenly has nothing to say when he's actually in California.

While the president uses LA to raise campaign cash, survivors of last year's firestorms are waiting for him to finally deliver federal relief to recover.
Trump's visit to California was a total snoozer. Very low energy. No speech. He could barely take a question on the tarmac. Night night, Grandpa!

This morning, drivers returned — ahead of schedule — to the 11-mile stretch of the PCH impacted by the #PalisadesFire.

As crews and first responders continue their critical, post-fire repairs along the road, be sure to follow traffic guidance and posted speed limits.
