#Fish-Mount
Shirts get in the way of oiling down that fish-belly physique. (I chalk it up as a lekking display, indistinguishable from sending dick pics to complete strangers. “I flashed my man-boobs! Now he has to submit and let me mount him like a pony!”)

Now available for all to read. I was on the road for 11 hours in two days, from a cook-your-own fish farm in Dunn County to a Lutefisk Dinner in the Driftless to the Hmong New Year celebration in Eau Claire to knocking doors with a candidate in Mount Horeb to a cookout with candy bars in Viroqua.
FEATURE STORY: Is this year and this place where the Obama-Trump saga ends? And what comes next? Can Democrats like Rebecca Cooke build a durable coalition?

Dropped the paywall for this longread, “Adrift in Western Wisconsin”:

… a day trip to Scilly got us a few seabirds (Puffin, Sooty Shearwater, a few Grey Phal’s, etc), Issy Shrike that was found when we were a couple of minutes away and Wilson’s Snipe, probably!

We didn’t see a Sora (seen ten minutes before we arrived and ten minutes after we left).

The Mount Washington Wilderness is sometimes overlooked as place to hike and fish. But it has some really beautiful and unique lakes, and a few great spots to toss a line.

Cut the catch! Menhaden shouldn't be fish meal or made into oil, they are an essential part of the ocean, coastal, and Chesapeake Bay ecosystems whose services both people and wildlife depend on. 🧪🐟

Ospreys in the Chesapeake Bay have just had their worst breeding season on record.

Dozens of federal and state lawmakers are calling for limits on industrial fishing for menhaden as regulators prepare to voice next month on whether to cut the catch.

I’m slightly regretting not measuring that northern I caught over the weekend and taking more pictures of it. Could have done a replica mount. I always worry about getting the fish back in the water ASAP. A lot of times in the high country I don’t even take the fish out of the water.

Side effect of going through government documents looking for a program with "rainbow" in the title: every so often I get a mention of rainbow trout. I welcome my queer fish siblings into the research project, obviously.

Pergear 50mm f1.4 Review: Exploring the Fish Scale Bokeh Look
The Pergear 50mm f1.4 lens promised the look of fish scale bokeh in its images. In practice though, my review is debunking that idea despite the fact that the image quality is still something very wonderful. For what it's worth, Pergear is the maker of one of my favorite 35mm f1.4 lenses ever made. In fact, I just went back and looked at the images I made with that lens on the Sony E mount. But this time around, I switched to Nikon. And combined with the Pictore Control Profiles on the Nikon Zf, I think that the Pergear 50mm f1.4 can make wonderful images. There's a big problem though.
