We were anxiously waiting for news about when weddings were going to be allowed. We married in the August in a small ceremony of 30 people and now have two small children. #fiveyearson

I had my first real #fiveyearson today. Yes, I already worked from home, but…🤦‍♂️😂

I don’t have much from this period #fiveyearson. I was so busy with work and travel that I didn’t really take notice until 5 March. At which point I was very worried indeed.

#fiveyearson

4 years and 11 months ago I started a new job at a cemetery. Never thought I'd be doing something like this but I've loved it and it's been a legit game changer for my life.

A relationship ended, a new job started, and it's been (mostly) uphill ever since.
I have this feeling that over the next few weeks I might like to note and mark what I was doing five years ago. Because it is big and real and still feels incredibly present in our lives.

I'll use the hashtag #fiveyearson which as far as I can tell is only used about Covid. Do mute if you need.

#FiveYearsOn I was just returning from my first ever solo holiday, I had steady employment, a house and a cat.

Now I am a freelancer in a rented flat, with visitation rights to the cat - and I’m very much in need of a holiday.

FB reminds me that 5 years ago today I sorted and spread out my stash of fabric. It's probably only a bit bigger now (unless you count cross stitch stuff, then it's a fair bit bigger) but not well organised. I did get back into sewing during Lockdowns. #FiveYearsOn

Around now in 2020 we were closing down the office, thinking it'd just be months. Grabbed various things from my desk, photo of Kid & useful pieces of paper. We turned everything off, and I crawled under desks to find the switches for various monitors, which weren't where you'd think. #FiveYearsOn

Looking back I see that another colleague came back from getting married on the home working day. He'd been able to get married as planned at least, it was before weddings were stopped/reduced. But it was a bit quieter than they'd planned as various people decided not to travel/attend. #FiveYearsOn

Been watching the Sandi Toksvig series of @qi.com. Now hit the 1st episode filmed in March 2020 (R series),which I'd been expecting. It's different without the studio audience, more quiet & sedate.
I listened to Sandi Toksvig's podcast during late 2020 & saw her delayed tour in 2022. #FiveYearsOn

After the home working practice day on 18th March one colleague told us she would remain at home to protect atfamily. She moved to another job while we were still locked down (15+ months later), but I have seen her in person a bit since. #FiveYearsOn

Wednesday 18th March 2020 was the home working test day, for a job that had previously been 100% in office. It felt very weird as we all messaged each other online. At that point we thought it'd be weeks/months, and of course UK hadn't declared a lockdown yet, but it was coming. #FiveYearsOn

We were pretty lucky in 2020. In January I'd signed up to a milkman, thinking it'd be better for the environment. It meant we always had milk, eggs & (gluten) bread during the lockdowns. I'd also got a big box of 48 loo rolls from an ethical company. I'd just started using bar soap too. #FiveYearsOn

I forgot posting this. Was worried about getting gluten free pasta, less so bread as I didn't eat it so much.
I do remember in March, probably a bit before this, going to a big supermarket to get regular bread for Dave to use at work & there was barely anything. Also big gaps in fruit. #FiveYearsOn

Looking back March 2020 is probably the weirdest month I've lived through. It felt so long as things went from normal to lockdown, and we gradually realised everything would have to change and that was happening all over. #FiveYearsOn

Mon 16th March 2020 I joined a WhatsApp group set up by my manager, so we could use it on the Work From Home practice day on Wednesday. Preparation for wfh for a while starting late March. Not everyone had work laptops, but at least my employer had a plan. We Skyped back then #FiveYearsOn

We went to an exhibition about Troy at the British Museum in early March 2020, it was really crowded and there was 1 white guy in a business suit who was masking. That kind of thing would be unthinkable weeks later. We booked a week off in May thinking we'd take Kid to London zoo #FiveYearsOn

With unerring timing I had recently taken over the health policy files in the Commission's SG (equivalent to Cabinet Office or Kanzleramt) so I was very much buckling up. #fiveyearson
I would really really love to hear other people's notes/strong memories about the specifics of this. I feel like we were all in such trauma that the memories have vanished fast, leaving a blanket of "oh god yuck awful" which isn't helpful for understanding how it's affected us.

Self employed, lost most of my work (still not back to pre-Covid levels). Got a job cleaning the local school, which had to stay open. Was caring for my father who had dementia, and was so scared I'd give him Covid. It was tense. At the same time... the peace and quiet was glorious. #fiveyearson

(if we're doing #FiveYearsOn pandemic trauma - this catches my eye in part because the second UK lockdown was effectively announced this way and as an autistic person already on the edge it broke me)

#FiveYearsOn According to Facebook memories, all seemed normal.
That largely fits with my experience - it didn’t feel like much changed for me. I was considered “essential” so had to keep going out to work (I wasn’t allowed to work from home).

Unusual, maybe, but I enjoyed it. Even out in the country the drop in traffic noise and the suddenly much more audible sounds like birdsong, wind and waves was wonderful. People seemed more relaxed away from stressful jobs, and, when permitted, social walking became much more common. #fiveyearson
