According to Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) 49% of children living in lone-parent (lone-mother) families are in poverty.

41% of all single mothers receive no child support from absent fathers.

The Child Maintenance Service is failing to protect these mothers who are victim-survivors
It is providing an opportunity for perpetrators to continue the abuse, and in some cases is making the abuse worse.

If a father fails to pay the sum, the CMS can remove his passport & his driving licence even imprison him.
If you didn’t know that, it’s because the CMS has removed just 3 passports & 1 driving licence since 2019.

Single parents should be celebrated for the amazing job they do - they deserve the best support. We must work to #FixTheCMS for them & for their children.

• Improve customer service for parents - including a named case manager.

Single parents do an amazing job of bringing up families whilst facing some difficult challenges – battling the Child Maintenance Service should not be one of those challenges. #fixthecms #singleparentsday2026
