#Flexbone
My first HC had the real quote on his office wall. We ran the flexbone.

I’m just here for the flexbone-less wings

Pitch (the option song)

Bring the flexbone back to North Avenue,
Two A-backs wide and a B-back comin' through,
Quarterback reads it, defense don't know what to do,
Forty-two rush calls and maybe throw it two.

Karmic punishment for abandoning their true calling - flexbone triple option

I gather that no one playing college football is very good… unless… there was a cat with a really good screenplay idea … who was up at 4 AM… drawing up offensive plays out of a modified flexbone…

Constructed an interesting counterfactual history in my head while mowing my lawn Friday where after 2024 instead of hiring Ben Arbuckle and acquiring Mateer OU instead goes flexbone and keeps Michael Hawkins to run it

Though Panthers fourth-year coach Andrew Britt has a background in the spread, his staff has moved to the Flexbone and are humming with QB Hunter Hurtado.
How Medina Valley has transitioned to triple option with stellar results

Excluding flexbone teams, West Virginia's 76 rushing attempts today were the fifth most in regulation by any FBS team since 1999

All four other teams won. WVU lost 52-31 to Arizona

All-time weird box score

Jason how dare you try to "exclude" flexbone teams. bsky.app/profile/jaso...

Northwestern is doing the thing we always say the lower-resourced teams should do: Run the flexbone.

It's working.
Chip Kelly is Flexing on them

most of that number isn’t even that spicy or interesting. it’s just wing T shit. they lined up in flexbone and punched penn state in the dick 50 times

Chip Kelly had him in hell. He’s gonna have nightmares about flexbone sets for years
October 3, 2026 at 3:04 PM
He has those boys lined up in the flexbone in the year of our lord 2026
October 3, 2026 at 3:31 AM

If anyone else was the OC at Northwestern, I'd be all in on the flexbone cats. Still mostly in, but it's Chip Kelly needs to be [redacted] forever.
20 years of "only Pat Fitzgerald could win at Northwestern" and there's a decent chance the random guy they swapped in because nobody else was available has already put together a better team than any team in the entire Fitzgerald era.

(Not quite there yet but getting close)

Lots of Paul Johnson, Georgia Southern, service academy flexbone in that DNA. The wide A-back outside the TE on the right end is a nod to rules changes, but that motion leading into the belly run is Old School goodness.

We really don’t get one down block in there do we? Wild stuff. Pretty sure they broke out a flexbone play at some point too.

Time to run some flexbone
September 27, 2026 at 3:01 AM
Yup, definitely want to consider running the Flexbone vs. Arkansas
Might as well run the flexbone. It might be more successful
