The Flint School District board voted 6–1 to approve the concept of pursuing a 40-hour NSBA national-training certification for trustees, authorizing staff to accept contract terms and seek funding before final approval; trustees flagged contract review and funding contingencies.

The board approved, 7–1, a grant commitment letter from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation for a new high school project while trustees pressed for legal review and raised concerns about a clause requiring the district to share public-release drafts with the foundation; the letter also specifies the district must raise about $35.9 million toward the project.

At a Committee of the Whole meeting, the board opened with a moment of silence for a student killed in community violence and heard multiple public comments about classroom safety, a parent account of a serious injury, and calls for better communication and partnerships; the superintendent pledged follow‑up and the board agreed to two‑part public‑comment responses.

The Flint Housing Commission and Concentric Education Solutions presented partnership proposals to the board to expand in‑neighborhood academic supports, home visits and professional student advocates to boost attendance, retention and enrollment; trustees asked for more detail on budget, measurement and local partnerships.
