Dr. Flojaune Cofer presenting at UC Davis Emergency Medicine Academic Forum Slide shows Anakin Skywalker’s life events: Pregancy/birth: • Born a slave • Absent father Childhood: • Child slave • Taken from his mother to be • trained as a Jedi at age 10 • Abandonment • Heightened arousal • Fear of loss Adolescence: • Trusted adult relationship with Obi-Wan Kenobi • Jedi education • Freed from slavery • Exposure to violence via Clone Wars • Ongoing family separation Adulthood: • Lacks trust • Corrupting Influences (Sith Lord Darth Sidlous) • Unplanned multiple pregnancy • Domestic violence in marriage to Padme • Severely burned • Death Star explosion • Ongoing family • Ongoing war • Premature death separation Pregnancy/Birth; • Born a slave • Absent father* Anakin's age: Episode 1: 9 years old Episode 2: 19 vears old Episode 3: 22 years old Episode 4: 41 yeacs old Episode 5: 44 years old Episode 6: 45 years old Life expectancy is one of the core measurements of public health progress, so the most telling factor of Anakin/Darth Vader's life story is how prematurely it ended. In Episode 1, Anakin is 9 years old. By Episode 4, he's 41. The remaining two films happen in rapid succession, so he is 44 and 45, respectively. This tells us that the decrepit man revealed at the end of Episode 6 is only 45 years old. For reference, that's only 2 years older than I am right now.
