What prompted you to start your organization? FlowReady was born from both personal experience and a growing realization that far too many girls experience menstruation in fear, confusion, and silence. Growing up in Uganda, menstruation was rarely discussed openly. When I first started menstruating, I didn’t have the luxury of pads, privacy, or even adequate sanitation. “Do you have another one?” The young woman sitting across from me in the crowded taxi whispered the question while gesturing toward the shawl wrapped around my shoulders. At first, I didn’t understand what she meant. But as I leaned closer, I realized something was wrong. By Lea Bwanika — Advocacy and Partnerships Manager, FlowReady On my way to Mayuge District recently, I boarded a 14-seater taxi and found myself sitting by the door — one of the most uncomfortable seats in the vehicle and often avoided by commuters. It’s the seat where passengers exiting constantly ask you to stand so they can get out, and there is barely any legroom to begin with.

This year, FlowReady emphasized building trust with girls, families, and schools, assisting over 250 girls. Support included menstrual health education for girls and boys, distribution of sanitary supplies, and creating safe school environments. Future efforts will focus on enhancing educational resources and partnerships, ensuring sustainable support for girls.
