CAN bus turned 40 this year: Bosch unveiled it in 1986 so car computers could share 2 wires. When nodes collide, the lowest message ID wins and nothing is lost. Still inside cars, robots and industrial IoT. fluidwire.com #CANBus #EmbeddedSystems #Fluidwire

Wire gauge runs backwards: 12 AWG is thicker than 24 AWG. The number counts how many times the wire was drawn through a die -- more draws, thinner wire. Six gauges up doubles the diameter. Why your breadboard jumper browns out an ESP32. #IoT #EmbeddedSystems #Fluidwire

Turn your thesis idea into working hardware. Fluidwire prototypes PCBs, microcontrollers, and embedded systems in Parañaque. Bring the concept — we build the board.

Why is a byte 8 bits? It was not always. Early machines used 6, 7 or 9 bit bytes -- IBM System/360 fixed it at 8 in 1964. That is why network specs say "octet", and why C promises CHAR_BIT >= 8, not == 8. fluidwire.com #IoT #EmbeddedSystems #Fluidwire

Hello, World started in 1972 in Brian Kernighan's Bell Labs tutorial for the B language. The embedded version is Blink: one LED proving your toolchain works before you write real firmware. fluidwire.com #IoT #EmbeddedSystems #Fluidwire

The power symbol is binary: the line is 1 (on), the circle is 0 (off). The one on your laptop is a line inside a circle -- that is standby, not off. Standby still draws current, which is the whole battery-life problem in IoT. fluidwire.com #IoT #EmbeddedSystems #Fluidwire

Silicon Valley was named by a journalist: Don Hoefler's Jan 1971 "Silicon Valley USA" series in Electronic News. Before the chipmakers it was orchards, the Valley of Heart's Delight. Named for the material. #IoT #TechHistory #Fluidwire

Why does Wi-Fi use 2.4 GHz? It was the microwave oven's junk band. Regulators set it aside for ovens, then the FCC opened it to unlicensed devices in 1985 -- and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Zigbee moved in. fluidwire.com #IoT #EmbeddedSystems #Fluidwire

Every silicon chip traces back to a 1916 accident: chemist Jan Czochralski dipped his pen in molten tin instead of his inkwell and pulled out a single crystal. That crystal-pulling method still grows nearly every silicon wafer. fluidwire.com #IoT #Semiconductors #Fluidwire

Why is it called booting? Short for bootstrapping -- lifting yourself by your own bootstraps. You need a program to load a program, so a tiny ROM loader pulls in the real firmware. Still how every ESP32 starts. fluidwire.com #IoT #EmbeddedSystems #Fluidwire

Null Island: 0N 0E in the Gulf of Guinea. No land -- but it is where broken GPS trackers and geocoders dump errors. A cluster of points at 0,0 = bad IoT location data. fluidwire.com #IoT #GPS #Fluidwire

The MOSFET is the most manufactured object in human history -- around 13 sextillion made since Bell Labs invented it in 1959. It's the tiny switch inside every microchip and IoT device. fluidwire.com #IoT #Electronics #Fluidwire

Hedy Lamarr, 1940s Hollywood star, co-patented "frequency hopping" in 1942 -- the wireless idea now inside Bluetooth, Wi-Fi & GPS. Built to stop torpedo jamming; now core to every IoT device. fluidwire.com #IoT #TechHistory #Fluidwire

Computers count time from Jan 1, 1970 -- the Unix epoch. On 32-bit systems that counter overflows Jan 19, 2038: the Y2038 bug, a real risk for embedded/IoT firmware still in the field. fluidwire.com #IoT #EmbeddedSystems #Fluidwire

The first computer mouse (1964) was carved from wood. Douglas Engelbart's SRI prototype rolled on two metal wheels and got its name because the cord looked like a tail. Hardware history that still shapes IoT: fluidwire.com #IoT #TechHistory #Fluidwire

Why is it called the Raspberry Pi? 'Raspberry' follows the fruit-named-computer tradition (Apple, Acorn). 'Pi' is for Python -- the language it was built to run. Now a favorite for IoT and embedded projects. fluidwire.com #RaspberryPi #IoT #Fluidwire
